What is the source for "It was created in 1895 by renaming the Prescot Rural District when the parish of Prescot was removed from that rural district and created a separate urban district."

I can't find any evidence of this.

Neither can I. [1] shows Prescot UD created in 1894 and [2] shown Whiston RD created in 1894 with no boundary changes with each other until 1932. MRSC 14:21, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Reference is made to this change on the website of Knowsley Council's Local History section under "Tarbock Timeline-Part 4". See,also,, William K Blinkhorn "A History of Whiston", (Leonie Press (Anne Loader Publications) [3], 2004.)p1 Placid

  • Why should Whiston be associated, in any way, with Cheshire. Whiston is, and always has been, in Lancashire, not Cheshire. 80.192.242.187 19:31, 27 December 2006 (UTC) JemmyH.[reply]

Whiston Township is now in the County of Merseyside though for the purposes of the Duchy of Lancaster it is part of the County Palatine of Lancaster. However the area of the former Rural District has been divided between Merseyside and Cheshire. The parts in Cheshire are mainly in the unitary Borough of Halton.
