I'm a bit surprised that this article uses the name Flushing exclusively to refer to the Dutch town of Vlissingen. Linguistic issues can be politically difficult, but to use an English name for a Dutch town, without giving the official Dutch name seems to be excessively chauvinistic. I guess "...In absence of a common English name, the current local name of the city should be used..." from guideline Wikipedia:Naming conventions (settlements) is the reason. --Van helsing 12:36, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, but I noticed just now that the main article on Flushing contains a discussion on this same issue, and that we could argue about whether Flushing is a *common* English name for this town. Examples where the guideline would apply might be The Hague or Brussels (Bruxelles or Brussel), Antwerp (Antwerpen). However, in these cases the English name is quite close to the local names in spelling.Sangwine 20:49, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
