Wesley Taylor Talk-from my userpage[edit]

Copied from my userpage:

My initial edits were rejected as they lacked citations. I carefully cited the new changes, but received the message below from you: "Joseph2302 left a message on your talk page in "March 2015". Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Wesley Taylor, you may be blocked from editing."

I apologize for any confusion or disruption, and appreciate your help!

Hi Talentintern,
I shouldn't have used the word vandalism, as it was probably a harsh way of describing your edits, which clearly had good intentions.
However, it is considered bad practice to remove source content without a consensus to do so (WP:REMOVAL). You changed his birth town to Elizabeth, New Jersey without a source mentioning it (source used doesn't mention Elizabeth anywhere), and have decided to completely omit his entire personal life (family and relationships), removing properly-soured content, which is common among biographies (BLPs). Your edit is mainly a list of achievements, which only mentions Taylor, whereas the other edit listed his collaborators too, and used more of a prose style.
The problem is that whilst your edits may be the article that Taylor wants written, this is an encyclopaedia, and as such any relevant reliably sourced information should be added, not just the cherry-picked information that your client wants.
I think that as this is an issue about the article itself, it should be discussed on the talkpage, so all users can contribute. If you don't have an objection, I can copy this discussion onto the talkpage?
On a different note, as you appear working on behalf of Wesley Taylor, you should familiarise yourself with Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy, if you haven't already done so. If additionally you are being paid by Wesley Taylor to edit, then you need to particularly read the paid editors section.

Hope this helps. Joseph2302 (talk) 01:04, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page Edits[edit]

Hi @Joseph2302 and @Epicgenius,

Thank you both for taking the time to respond to my questions. I apologize for not following proper Wikipedia etiquette.

For potential edits, could we start with Wesley's birthplace? The Time Out article I cited, [1] mentions he was born in Jersey. His IMDb specifies that he was born in Elizabeth: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0853330/bio. Would combining these two sources suffice to note Elizabeth, New Jersey as his birthplace?

A few of the links on his page are currently broken, which also necessitated addressing some of the information: 2. "UNCSA Alumni Win Theatre World Awards". University of North Carolina School of the Arts. May 20, 2009. Retrieved March 21, 2011.] http://www.uncsa.edu/announcement/pagenotfound.htm 10. "The Broadway League. Wesley Taylor | Awards and Nominations. IBDB."http://www.ibdb.com/awardperson.asp?id=483155 22. "American Conservatory Theater: Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City – A New Musical". Act-sf.org. Retrieved March 11, 2012. http://www.act-sf.org/1011/talesofthecity/

Thank you again for your help.

First, thank you for posting your concerns here. However, I am not sure that IMDb is a reliable source, per consensus on that matter. Fixing the dead links and adding the TimeOut link, though, will be good. Epic Genius (talk) 02:55, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
IMDb isn't a reliable source, so I changed his birthplace to New Jersey, and changed infobox to say New Jersey as well (this still said Carolina). Added dead link tags to those links you mentioned, feel free to change those. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:32, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As there is currently no citation for the introductory sentence, would it be okay to change it from:
'Wesley Taylor (born August 13, 1986) is an American stage actor and writer, probably best known for his roles in the Broadway musicals Rock of Ages and The Addams Family.'
to:
'Wesley Taylor (born August 13, 1986) is an American stage actor and writer, probably best known for his work on Broadway, Television, and his original web content.'
