Comments moved from my user talk page[edit]

Hi Terasaface, You posted the following on my talk page and this seemed to be the best place to discuss these items:

"Editing my contributions would be so appreciated!! I am currently drafting up a page from scratch, it is in my sandbox now, not quite ready yet. Can you see my sandbox? I'm not quite sure how that works. Still pretty confused on the photograph copyright stuff, I would love to use a photo of this woman in the article I am writing, but I am not sure which one I am allowed to use. Also I am hosting an edit-a-thon on Saturday for Art+Feminism at a small artist residency that I am at. It will be only about ten to fifteen people, but I am gathering articles and names of artists for people to research and edit. Any advice you may have in that area would be greatly appreciated as well! Thankfully the Art+Feminism crew is incredibly supportive, so I am feeling fairly prepared for hosting this event, but I am still trying to be as prepared as possible! Thanks!! I've been pretty busy the last couple days and will be again tomorrow, but I'll take a quick look at your article and be able to give it more time soon. Regarding the photograph, have you found one that is free? See this at commons.

One tip for creating new articles is to ensure that there are sufficient sources. A cool tool is {{Find sources}}. For instance for this article, it would be {{Find sources|Wendy Maruyama}} which produces

Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL.

Since there is such a concerted effort, it would be great if the artists are considered notable, per WP:NARTIST and WP:GNG. Good luck, that sounds like a fun event and how nice to be adding articles about important women artists.–CaroleHenson (talk) 02:48, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is so helpful, thank you so much! That Find Source tool is really great. I guess I am still unsure about fair use of images, for example, would I be allowed to use this image from her own website? There's nothing for her on the commons or the Find Sources: Free images. Tricky stuff! Thanks for all your help! Terasaface (talk) 21:42, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A release is needed to upload an image to commons. See this info about licensing. You could contact her at her website and ask for an image, mentioning the needed release at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Email_templates. Alternatively, she could upload an image herself via https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard, selecting an appropriate license.–CaroleHenson (talk) 22:19, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that makes sense! Thank you! I will contact her through her website and ask if she would submit an image to the commons. Thank you so much! Terasaface (talk) 22:47, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, Terasaface, Great work on this article! It's very interesting.

One thing that I'm noticing, though, is that about half of the sources are from organizations / schools (SDSU, other schools, furnsoc.org) that she's affiliated with. Is it possible to find independent news, book or other reliable sources for that information?–CaroleHenson (talk) 00:36, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edits[edit]

My edits include:

  • Reorganized the career section headings
  • Added some links to the lead. The process for linking other articles is to link the first instance in the article. I added a tag to the education section that could use links
  • Added a few clarification tags - with a reason to explain the question or issue
  • Did some clean-up to the reference section
  • Made some minor edits

It's an interesting article, good work! I didn't do a comprehensive copy edit yet, but hopeful these edits are helpful and the kind of thing that you were looking for.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about my edits. While I was editing, the article was moved to article space - congratulations!–CaroleHenson (talk) 03:25, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I also started a wikidata record for her at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q28921957 - identity information is populated in the {{Authority control}} section at the bottom of the article.–CaroleHenson (talk) 03:31, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is so exciting! Thank you so much for all of your edits, it looks great! I am going to continue editing it so your continued support would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Terasaface (talk) 21:42, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
