Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2010)[edit]

Should Weird: The Al Yankovic Story trailer get an article? The fake trailer features a different story, where Al is Madonna's lover -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 23:09, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No. Not notable. Some Dude From North Carolina (talk) 01:48, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Description[edit]

The movie is described as a "biographical comedy". If Yankovic co-wrote the screenplay, shouldn't that be "autobiographical"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:140:8400:6F6:106:41DC:2CFA:8CC5 (talk) 12:20, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, because it is satire. It is not intended to be anything accurate about his life. --Masem (t) 12:27, 11 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Masem, "auto" refers to the self; "biographical" refers to the story of a life. Therefore it could not be rightfully called "biographical" if it is not intended to be accurate, but it can be rightfully called "auto-something" since it is indeed Al writing about Al himself, albeit a fictionalized version. I added that it is satirical to the description. In real live, Al never had a long-term sexual relationship with Madonna, he was never a smoker, and he was never taken to the hospital after an overdose... just for a few examples. Now, if this a movie about Weird Al actually being an undercover hitman for the CIA, using his "weird" personna to allow him to travel the world and bump off bad guys on contract, then it would be a little more difficult to claim it is satire. 97.82.165.112 (talk) 13:44, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Satircal" is a good descriptor. Masem (t) 13:50, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Weird Al knew his real biography would be boring & unprofitable. This wasn't about self-aggrandizement & ego. Not taking himself seriously, far less any art, the comedy sketch (trailer) of a fake biography movie took on a life of it's own. His skills of parody, satire & creativity are poured into the movie with care & polished with his usual precision. You can take it just as fun or learn lessons from his fiction & real life, that's upto the audience. @Tygrus 14.201.231.91 (talk) 12:50, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
