Lemma[edit]

Hi. I always thought that in this Englisch speaking Wikipedia you transcribe Thai words according to the Royal Thai General System of Transcription - or at least you try to?

Well, then it would be someting like "Wat Mahathat Yuwarat Rangsarit (Ratchaworamahawihan)". I would suggest you move this article to "Wat Mahathat Yuwarat Rangsarit" to have it consistent to the other articles about Thailand.

Greetings. --hdamm (talk) 15:58, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer to think of RTGS as a last resort when an established preferred spelling of proper nouns cannot be found. Wikipedia:Naming conventions says to use the most common name for the subject, and it appears the temple's name is more commonly spelled this way. "Wat Mahathat Yuwarat Rangsarit" gives only 8 Google hits. Pattaya isn't at Phatthaya, after all. --Paul_012 (talk) 19:09, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well ok - if the name is more commonly spelled that way. But in this case, even the TAT uses RTGS spelling (see Image:Watmahathatbkk0609e.jpg, taken already in 2006 right at the temple)! --hdamm (talk) 07:40, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
