Tacoma/McChord freeway from the dome area?[edit]

User:24.18.102.54 cites a 1968 Washington State Highway map for the source of the statement, "This freeway was probably planned to continue south, intersecting with SR-512 near Puyallup," referring to the freeway-like interchange of SR-7 on 38th Street. I've got a 1966 Texaco "Street Map of Tacoma" (also titled "Tacoma Street and Vicinity Maps"), and it's showing the proposed interchange, but nothing more than existing railroad tracks from the interchange on south. It also shows that the freeway part of SR-512 ends at Pacific Avenue (SR-7), but that it's proposed to be built out as far as Canyon Road. At the time, SR-512 ran along 112th Street, past Canyon, off the edge of the map.

I'm really curious to see what the 1968 map -- two years newer than mine -- shows. Why would a freeway from the dome to Puyallup even be considered to be a McChord freeway? Travisl 23:18, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hearing no comments, I'm removing it. Travisl 15:49, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

This review is transcluded from Talk:Washington State Route 7/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Comments:

  1. Change "where the end of SR 7 is" to "where it ends at".
  2. The sentence "The earliest road to used the current route of SR 7 first appeared in a 1900 map of the Tacoma area and has been part of the state highway system since 1909, when the Alder-Kosmos Road was added to the system as State Road 18, which became part of two branches of State Road 5 in 1923 and later branches of Primary State Highway 5." is very wordy and should be split.
  3. In same sentence, "used" should be "use".
  4. "and constructed started": "constructed" should be "construction".
  5. The sentence "After leaving Morton, the highway becomes the Mountain Highway, passes through a heavily forested area, passes Mount Rainier to cross the Nisqually River, leave Lewis County and enter Pierce County." sounds awkward and needs to be reworded.
  6. Do not use "then" in describing progression of route.
  7. I don't think traffic counts from 1970 are accurate in the route description.
  8. The route description is awfully short for a 58 mile-long road. Can more information about what physical surroundings and landmarks it passes be added?
  9. In sentence "During the 1964 highway renumbering the two branches became SR 7." indicate that these are two branches of PSH 5.
  10. The sentence "Between 1968 and 2008, the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad gave the railroad that parallels SR 7 to Tacoma Rail." sounds confusing.
  11. In sentence "The segment of the highway between SR 507 in Spanaway to SR 512 in Parkland had a very high accident rate, so WSDOT added saftey improvements in 2007.", indicate that this is SR 7 receiving the improvements.
  12. Can a picture of the route itself be added to the article?

I am placing the article on hold. Dough4872 (talk) 00:49, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Nearly Done - I don't have any pictures and Tacoma is about 100 mi from my house and I can't get down there. –CG 15:05, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
