Spelling[edit]

I understand that changing article titles is "tricky". Just in case this article is being changed, the word is preceding", not "preceeding". Wanderer57 00:20, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed it. Thanks for pointing that out. COGDEN 01:59, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Proposal[edit]

Proposed for merge with Background of the Mountain Meadows massacre. The two articles overlap significantly, and focusing efforts on a single article could produce a better one. --BizMgr (talk) 15:16, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since a month went by with no discussion of this merge proposal, I'm going ahead and simply deleting it (although I hope I'm not doing something I'm not supposed to here). I did rename the "Events preceding" article as "War hysteria preceding," though, to specify what differentiates the two. --Justmeherenow (talk) 04:09, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How many times did the Mormon Apostle Smith go South? #1 MOUNTAIN MEADOWS massacre/Escalating tensions. #2 War hysteria preceding the Mountain Meadows massacre. #3 War hysteria preceding the Mountain Meadows massacre/George A. Smith's circuit through southern Utah. Did he make all three trips on the same date? Didn't this fellow travel to the meadows a year later and investigate massacre? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tinosa (talkcontribs) 05:00, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Opening paragraph[edit]

I have trouble with one line in the opening paragraph. It says:

Brigham Young sought to enlist the help of Indian tribes in fighting the "Americans", encouraging them to steal cattle from emigrant trains, and to join Mormons in fighting the approaching army.

Why is the term "Americans" quoted? And wasn't Utah petitioning for statehood? It makes it seem as if Young despised the United States, but I believe that is false. Can we reword it and lose the quotes to make it more accurate? Bytebear (talk) 21:28, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a start.(http://www.mtn-meadows-assoc.com/DepoJournals/Dimick/Dimick-2.htm) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.174.58.207 (talk) 00:14, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That is incredibly unhelpful. Do you have a specific phrase or page from this journal? Bytebear (talk) 05:33, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
