Needs tidying up[edit]

Why is there a big white space?

Black Wantage[edit]

The name could also come from the residue from the old tannery (where Waitrose car-park now stands) fouling the local streets. The Fat Contrator 15:03, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All of the references I've ever come across refer to "Black" Wantage as being so-named because of the association with smugglers and other criminals. Do you have a reference for the tannery assocation?
I don't see a reference to "Golden Wantage", which was also one of the town's historical names.
The article could do with more information on the occupations by Romans and Anglo-Saxons (including an overview of Roman and Saxon ruins, especially the recent discovery of a villa at what is now Marns Hey), the dye works, the effect of the resurrection of some of the waterways in the area, and sections on schools serving the town (both historic and present day). Reference to Black Wantage: Not online. There is a book in the library (I'll dig it out next time in town) that refers to this but unfortunately I can't remember the name. One of the reasons I didn't change the article. I've never heard the term 'Golden Wantage'. The Fat Contrator 15:00, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did a quick search on Google Books and came up with a few references that are accessible, if that helps. Likewise for Black Wantage and the association with economic depression and crime. AncientBrit (talk) 17:21, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
