"sample license"[edit]

both hardware versions are capable of sample playback through the synth engine, & the units have 60MB of user-accessible memory for samples, which are keymapped & loaded into the unit using the spectre application. the desktop version has this functionality enabled by an optional license, so that the synthesizer can be bought more cheaply (with no sample playback) & upgraded later if the owner wishes. this option is tied to the hardware instance by serial number at the time of licensing. the keyboard version (often called "blokey" by users) has the sample playback option enabled permanently. this is OR, based on my owning several of both versions- need to find a supporting citation.
