Generals?[edit]

I have moved the following sentence from the article to the talk page:

In this song Seeger says that all of the generals in the Vietnam War are making the wrong decisions in battle.

Although the whole stub is unsourced, the rest of the piece seems uncontroversial, while this sentence seems dubious to me. Feel free to add it back into the article with a reference. --Allen 21:37, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Allen seems to be correct here. The words of the song suggest that Seeger was laying the blame on the strategy of the president rather than the tactics of the generals. -- JimR 05:00, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no criticism of generals, as such, but of a specific "big fool". The obvious target when the song was written was Johnson. Of course Seeger sang the song in public in the 1990's, aiming at another president. I'm fairly sure the song was translated into Japanese much earlier than 2015. Perhaps it was covered again in 2015, and that's where the confusion comes from? Bruce Springsteen's song[edit]

There is a song by Bruce Springsteen called "The Big Muddy" from the 1992 album "Lucky Town". Chorus says "Waist deep in the big muddy Waist deep in the big muddy You start out standing but end up crawlin'"

The song is not directly related to the Vietnam War (here is a link to the lyrics), but it could defenitely be that the Boss had his inspiration from Seeger's song. Maybe a reference to tis could be added. --Pippotro 11:47, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
