Comment[edit]

This page is not, as has been suggested by the addition of the Speedy Deletion template, about a company or corporation but instead is about a community radio station -- a valid article that follows many of the conventions for pages about radio stations (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Radio_Stations). There has already been a page about the previous radio station on Waiheke, Beach FM, and this station is a continuation of a lengthy history of radio stations on Waiheke Island. I intend to both flesh out the history of Beach FM in this context (I have already started on that) and to continue working on the significance of community radio on Waiheke Island. I am also currently editing the Community radio article. Countrymike (talk) 02:43, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Even a commercial station could easily be notable, so speedy delete was likely quite inappropriate. Some news articles or such references would be good to enhance clarification of notability, though. Ingolfson (talk) 08:39, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation?[edit]

Could someone explain / rephrase to make clearer why the loss of the frequency was an "opportunity" to create this station? Sounds too positive.

Also maybe discuss why the new station has a frequency (apparently for free?) when others have to bid?

This is not an attack on the article - I just have no clue how this works, and its not clear from the article. Ingolfson (talk) 08:39, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The loss of The Beach left the island without a radio station and left a lot of people who were dedicated to radio without the means to broadcast. The Beach had been run on a semi-commercial basis which also didn't sit well with the volunteer nature of most of the people who kept it broadcasting. Waiheke Radio broadcasts on Low Power FM which does not require a broadcast license as such, see: http://www.rsm.govt.nz/cms/licensing/types-of-licence/general-user-licences/low-power-fm-broadcasting-short-range-devices/ Countrymike (talk) 03:29, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
