Broadcast signal in Montreal region[edit]

Quote from article... "It is expected the channel 27 signal will no longer be available in the areas of Quebec far from the border by mid 2007, when it will be cancelled out by the French Télé-Québec network; its flagship, CIVM, will commence digital broadcasting on channel 27, from atop Mount Royal in Montreal. It is not known how CIVM's signal would affect WWBI's signal in WWBI's immediate viewing area."

As of mid-July 2007, you can still clearly receive WWBI's analog signal from within the Montreal area. I'm curious if CIVM has delayed digital broadcasting. Presumably it would indeed cancel out the analog 27 in the Montreal/Quebec region--I'd be surprised if it didn't.--User:apple2gs 05:01, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About two weeks after posting that the signal vanished, I just get static snow on channel 27 from my Montreal location. Difficult to say if it's CVIM blocking it out, or if they're having technical difficulties, especially since WWBI has gone off the air like that for long periods before. If anyone has official confirmation about CVIM using channel 27 (as of July/August 2007) the article should be updated...-Apple2gs 03:45, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Helpful to have several articles?[edit]

I'm sure it was originally thought more efficient to have one article covering several stations with similar/identical programming. But with differences, would it now be more understandable if there were several articles? I realize they's all have to link to each other. Your call. Student7 14:28, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WWBI Defunct?[edit]

It's been about a year since I was last able to pick up WWBI here in Montreal, despite them saying they'd be back in November, and the owner hasn't answered an email I sent back in May. Is it safe to declare this station defunct? Has anyone closer to the transmitter been able to receive it? --Noname2 (talk) 23:19, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We live almost under the transmitter at Jay Peak! Sorry. what is an "antenna"?  :) Surprising that there has been nothing about it in the news. It is LP but I assume that hasn't changed since you last received it. You can try calling it "defunct." Someone will bring us up to date if that is wrong.Student7 (talk) 12:58, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I may have missed something. They normally would have this in List of television stations in Vermont because it had a repeater here, but it seems to be missing. I don't know if New York has a similar list. Student7 (talk) 13:01, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So you can't pick up the Jay Peak repeater? I would assume that was already kicked off the air a while ago by WPTZ-DT (since it also uses channel 14) --Noname2 (talk) 20:38, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't have the technology to receive it. Have asked your question about activity on the Vermont list. There used to be editors monitoring that list pretty well. They might have some ideas. Student7 (talk) 21:19, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here was an editor's answer:
"According to FCC records (easily accessible from the FCC Web site), W14CK has been operating since August 2007 on channel 47 from the old (current) channel 22 tower on Mount Mansfield under Special Temporary Authority. W14CK was "displaced" by the construction of WPTZ's permanent DTV facility on channel 14. I'll update accordingly. 121a0012 (talk) 02:55, 9 August 2008 (UTC)" Student7 (talk) 20:00, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'll wait to see if anybody near the transmitters is able to pick up WWBI or W14CK. Also, what about cable? Are the cable systems in Burlington or Plattsburgh still offering WWBI? --Noname2 (talk) 18:15, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More from the expert in List of television stations in Vermont in answer to my question about why they listed Newport instead of Jay Peak -

":::The city of license has nothing to do with the transmitter location (except insofar as a station has to be able to serve its city of license from wherever it transmits). The channel 14 facility probably was located on Jay Peak (you could check the old coordinates in the FCC database to be sure. The channel 47 facility is on Mount Mansfield, according to their FCC filings. (I should point out that the reason they haven't applied for a permanent change of channel is that the FCC currently has a freeze on LPTV/class-A TV modification applications so that the staff can give full attention to the DTV transition.) 121a0012 (talk) 01:36, 11 August 2008 (UTC)" Student7 (talk) 12:37, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can confirm, WWBI-27 appears to have gone completely off-the-air--or at the very least their signal has gone extremely low-power and is no longer capable of reaching the Montreal area. It's been 1.5 years now and I just get static on channel 27. I've presumed they abandoned any plans to restore broadcasting, considering they have to cease analog as of February 2009. WBVT 39 (channel 52, My NetworkTV) also seems to be in a similar situation, for the last several weeks/months I've seen "Alarm: Installation Mode" or "Alarm: Fade Mode" and no audio.Apple2gs (talk) 02:53, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If they are an -LP, odds are that they do *not* have to shut down analogue when the full-service stations do so in 2009. A national shutdown date for LPTV has yet to be determined, but odds are that it won't be before 2012, if at all. As for CIVM-DT? Dunno what's up there, they've had a construction permit for a few years now in Montréal (and were recently given a permit for CIVQ-DT in Québec as well) but last I checked their website (a few months ago) no mention of Télé-Québec HD offered anywhere except on cable or pay-TV systems. --66.102.80.212 (talk) 06:00, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah interesting, I thought the February 2009 deadline applied to ALL analog TV broadcasters in the States, I had no idea there were exemptions being allowed for. If that's the case then maybe there is still a chance the channel will be restored in the near future, although it still doesn't make sense they'd go off the air nearly 2 years and the owners not seem to care. Are they broadcasting in any form, I mean is the channel carried by local cable TV providers in Vermont and New York? As for CIVM-DT, I don't think they're digital yet. I just started experimenting with an ATSC tuner in the last month and found there are only 3 digital channels coming out of Montreal: CBC-Montreal, Radio-Canada (French CBC) and TQS; everything else is still analog.--Apple2gs (talk) 12:16, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well it's been over a year since WWBI went off the air and Zap2it still lists WWBI as being available on cable in both Burlington and Plattsburgh. Though it's now on digital cable only in Burlington. --Noname2 (talk) 15:45, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's now been 3.5 years since WWBI stopped OTA broadcasting. Since that time I've checked channel 27 every couple of months and still nothing but static. Interestingly, I had a look on Zap2it moments ago, and it still lists WWBI as a channel available with an antenna. It shows their TV schedule consisting of nothing more than infomercials day and night, except for a block of TV shows from mid afternoon to late evening. So what's the story with this station? Are they only available through cable now, or are they completely defunct?--Apple2gs (talk) 04:12, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Credo in Una Radio?[edit]

An editor persists in placing an unreferenced "belief" about the station's future prospects. this is not a matter of "belief" or "unbelief". That is for religious articles. Either someone has said the radio will do thus and so and it can be placed here or no one quotable has said so it shouln't be here at all! Student7 (talk) 02:42, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
