Merge[edit]

I was bold and merged the WJCT (TV) and WJCT-FM into this article. They're run together by the same entity, so there's no real benefit to having separate articles (and just a dab page located at WJCT).--Cúchullain t/c 18:17, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Split proposal[edit]

I propose that this article be split into separate pages called WJCT (TV) and WJCT-FM. The content of the current page seems off-topic and these sections are large enough to make their own page. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 19:57, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Comment. There is a need for individual articles about WJCT (TV) & WJCT-FM as these are 2 separate stations with 2 distinct licenses & histories. Yes, they are under the same ownership, but that's all they really have in common. Convention is each licensed station gets its own article unless that station is part of something like a regional network, which neither station is. That's not accurate. The TV and radio stations have always been part of the same organization since radio was added in 1972. Their histories aren't separable, and there's no reason to have separate articles if there wasn't an article on the organization itself, as that's the notable part of the subject.--Cúchullain t/c 18:26, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
WGBH & WGBH-TV have always been under the same organization too. However, they are separate stations because of broadcast service, programming, etc.. WJCT should cover the organization, WJCT-FM should cover the radio station specifically, & WJCT (TV) should cover the television station specifically. That's more a flaw of the way Wikipedia has handled these articles. But if folks want separate articles for TV and radio, there's no reason they can't also exist in addition to the base article on the whole organization.--Cúchullain t/c 13:48, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support: The television and radio stations should be broken out into separate articles. Such action would necessitate expansion of the content in the existing WJCT article with appropriate citations if any are available. A separate article for WJCT, Inc., however, is questionable and probably unwarranted at this point. Whether locally originated broadcast licensees (mostly public broadcasting and commercial radio groups) warrant standalone articles is a case-by-case issue as some may not have appropriate citations or information to necessitate the creation of such an article. The sources for WJCT as one unit are as strong as the sources given in either article now. Readers would benefit more from one decent article than from two poor ones. I'm going to restore the WJCT article so I can keep working on it. The current setup is a mess, with the material on the WJCT website under the radio station's article. I reverted the technical move. This isn't eligible for a technical move as it's obviously challenged, as you know from participating in this discussion. The current setup seems the best way to handle things for readers. Mvcg66b3r: I had no way of seeing it at WP:RM/TR until after Anthony moved it. Again, this is not eligible for a technical request since - as you knew - it wasn't uncontroversial. This article is on WJCT as a unit covering its TV, radio, and online presence, which is much more in line its actual structure and how sources refer to the entity.[1][2] As such it works well as a WP:BROADCONCEPT article summarizing the TV and radio articles as well as material not covered at those, like the historical background of the organization and the online branch.--Cúchullain t/c 17:41, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Under Wikipedia:Naming conventions (companies), business entity suffixes are NOT added to business entities' article name unless there is a need to disambiguate. As the TV station has been disambiguated to WJCT (TV), there is no further need to disambiguate the parent organization further as it is a some what of a summary article including various WJCT articles (WJCT (TV), WJCT-FM). What I think should be changed (include citations):

There are several things on this page that are out of date because of changes to the organization's services in 2020 & 2021. As I declared above and on my user page, since I work for WJCT Public Media, it would violate Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest policy for me to make these changes on the page directly, which is why I am only requesting these changes. Some of these changes have been reflected on the WJCT_(TV) and WJCT-FM articles, but have not been updated on the main WJCT article.

Changes to WJCT (TV)[edit]

On February 24, 2021, WJCT, Inc. rebranded its television stations as "Jax PBS." [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Changes to WJCT-FM[edit]

On July 13, 2020, the organization changed its main radio station, WJCT-FM 89.9 FM HD1, to an all news/talk format and changed the name of the radio station to "WJCT News 89.9". [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13]

Launch of the Jacksonville Music Experience (JME)[edit]

On April 16, 2020, the organization launched a new music service which included a rebranding of its three FM HD substations called the Jacksonville Music Experience. [14] [15] [16] [17] [18]

@RayHollister: I'd like to take care of this request. Can you be a little more specific reg. WHERE to implement some of the changes? For example, the first new name, Jax PBS:
* Is that the new name?
* What does it replace? Does it replace "7.1" in the table? Does it also replace the Heading "WJCT-TV" below the table?
