Popular Culture[edit]

I have mentioned the fact that Ernst Stockinger, who is the lead character in "Stockinger", the Austrian spin-off from Inspector Rex, was driving a white Type 3 Squareback. Hoffman commercial[edit]

Since I've found myself the subject of "IP bias" in having some of my edits reverted, I'll explain that I changed the YouTube Link to the Hoffman commercial because I found a version that is actually the complete commercial, including the tag line about the dealer knowing where the engine is, which is important to have for the purposes of verification. Engine[edit]

I hesitate to include this in the main article, because I can't find any online support for my statement, which may speak to the efficiency of VW's PR department. However, I knew of two VW Variants whose engines literally shook themselves to pieces. One could be a freak car, but two? (The air-cooled VW engines were held together by 4 threaded studs/cylinder that ran from the block, alongside the cylinders and through the cylinder heads).--67.170.238.175 (talk) 00:41, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pulled head studs tended to happen in many Type 1, 2, & 3 engines, especially if they've been overheated. This was fixed in Beetles in the early '70s by changing from 10 mm to 8 mm (more elastic) head studs. 2602:304:CFA2:470:39F4:121D:E314:44B8 (talk) 03:48, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Brazilian "Type 3"[edit]

Some information contained here is not exactly correct. The brazilian Volkswagen 1600 is not related technically at all with the german made Volkswagen type 3, since there are very important mechanical differences.

The brazilian ones are based on the 1957 prototype Volkswagen EA97, and the Type 3 got some technical solutions developed after the EA97 was released, as the "suitcase" engine, for example. Thinking with this logic, I should propose a separete article for the Brazilian Volkswagen 1600 and leave the Type 3 article only for the german one. Alfacevedoa (My Talk) 04:38 11 dec 2016 (UTC)
