Defected?[edit]

The German page on Hort states that he moved to Germany in the late seventies (playing professionally for a German club) and kept his Czechoslovakian (later czech) citizenship until now. According to that page Hort only took up German citizenship in 1986 and kept playing for the Czechoslovakian side for a long time after his move. Hort defected after the IZT Tunis 1985. Before that, he was an employee of the German team Porz (sponsored by Hilgert). A contract was agreed upon and abided by Porz/Hilgert, Hort and the then communist czech authorities. So Hort could travel and establish a second home in Porz, near Cologne. Hort explains all this in an interview with the German monthly "Schach" in 2000 or so. The contract is from 1979(?), H often thought about defecting, each time he crossed the borders. Once he got in serious trouble, when he didn't declare some medicine. He had a teenage son, which kept him from defecting for a long time.
