Two pronunciations[edit]

There are two ways (at least in some dialects of American English) to pronounce the word viola.

The flower is a /ˈvaɪoʊlə/, like the heroine of Twelfth Knight.
The stringed instrument is a /viˈoʊlə/ (although some also pronounce the flower this way).
