"Powell and Driver were not racists, they merely tried to poke fun at racial bigotry in an era before political correctness would have made such a show impossible."

But they failed, dismally. I was a kid in the 1970s when Love thy Neighbour was on TV. This program alone was sufficient to cause large numbers of thick white kids to devote huge amounts of time to taunting and harrassing black kids by emulating the Eddie Booth character by shouting "hey Sambo!" or "here comes the nignog". At my school there was a relatively small number of black kids, and their life was made hell because of this. Those same kids are probably the same people who now go around slagging off what they call "political correctness", much as you have done. Powell and Driver may have not been racists, but they were certainly bloody stupid. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.198.33.252 (talk) 15:35, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Info box writing dates for Never the Twain[edit]

Never the Twain is included with the dates of 1981-1991. This misleading. These are indeed the dates of the period during which the series was broadcast, but Powell did not create this series, nor was he its original writer. It was devised by Johnnie Mortimer, who wrote all the episodes in the first two series (1981-1982). From the third series onwards other writers also wrote for it. Vince Powell wrote one episode for that (1983) series and then two more for the next series (1984). He then wrote regularly for it until the 8th series in 1988 when he contributed one episode, all the rest being by Mortimer. However thereafter Powell was the sole writer for the series until it finished in 1991. Thus if it is included, it should probably just be 1983-1991. I have now changed it to 1983-1991 for the reasons outlined above.
