vilcambamba is in ecuador not in peru, correct that (added by User:200.116.148.38)

Further to the above Vilcabamba IS in Peru, although it is on no maps becuase, as the article states, it is now a ruin and not inhabited. As such it may only appear as "Espiritu Pampa" (plain of ghosts) on maps. There is also a modern day settlement in Ecuador called Vilcabamba - it is not the same place. (added by User:81.168.58.234)

Vilcabamba IS inhabited, it's a valley, a town and a parrish near to Cusco. It's on the map, in province of "La Convencion". --Lanerossi 21:59, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to the map on p. xxvi of the Folio Society reprint of Bingham's "Lost City of the Incas", and the discussion in the foreword, the existing village of Villcabamba was founded by the Spaniards, and is almost 50 miles to the east of the Inca ruins being discussed in the article. In other words there are two different Villcabambas in Cusco province, which may require disambiguation if anyone ever wants to write an article about the inhabited village. The existing geocoding for the ruins in the article of 10°28′41″S 76°26′51″W / -10.4781, -76.4475 is way off, being several provinces away from the ruins at Espiritu Pampa. My best estimate from the map, which shows the ruins as being slightly to the west of a right-angle bend in the Pampaconas River would be -13.031, -73.1622. Although my comments are late they need to be included to complete this discussion. The Vilcabamba of this article is the Inca town of the last four Inca emperors. Hiram Bingham also used the name Vilcapampa for this town, although he did not realize it was the final Inca town of the emperors (he incorrectly thought Machu Picchu was the last). The current name of the area is Espiritu Pampa. It has also been called Vilcabamba Viejo (the Old). A second location, in Peru, is also called Vilcabamba or Vilcabamba the New. I'm not 100% sure that this is the Vilcabamba that is in the game, however the location on the games map seems to be in the Peru area. The map isn't charted though, and it seems pretty close to Ecuador, so my edit might belong in Vilcabamba, Ecuador. Just a heads up. DSMeatte 20:57, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[edit]

The three small color pictures are of an adjacent site called "Rosas Patas" which was the summer palace of Tupac Amaru, the last Inca. Unlike Vilcabamba, the location of Rosas Patas was well known to Spanish authorities. I visited both sites in 1972. Peter klika (talk‎) 8 May 2024.

Shouldn't "Inca Government in Vilcabamba" a separate article?[edit]

I was curious as to why this is merged within the article that talks about the city itself. It should be split into two separate articles in truth. The city should have it's own article like how many ancient cities do while the part about the Incna govt. there should be another article in it's own right. That's just my two cents on this matter. Why the placeholder in the Inca remnant section? It seems like it's been there a while so whoever was going to expand it seems to have forgotten. Change infobox template to ancient site[edit]

Currently the template is "infobox settlement" but I suggest it'd be converted to "infobox ancient site" since they are ruins, not a recently abandoned city. Just like the article "Machu Picchu", this article should be changed to said template. Epinedo (talk) 05:16, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
