Missing U2

U-Bahn Station Articles

I'm finding it around time to start adding individual articles about the stations, but what should i call the articles? Praterstern Subway station is Wien Praterstern Railway Station, although that sound more like a railway station than a subway station. Any ideas? See Wien Mitte railway station for an example of how the relevant WikiProject apparently likes such multi-modal stations to be named; there are similar names used for multi-modal stations in the Berlin U-Bahn. I only became aware of this one a couple of days ago when I looked at Category:Vienna U-Bahn stations and saw it had appeared there. Yngvadottir (talk) 15:50, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Translated material

I improved the article with information from the equivalent German article, de:U-Bahn Wien, and with lists of current stations using de:Liste der Wiener U-Bahn Stationen and the individual German articles on some of those stations. I have not searched for English Wikipedia articles on those stations to add links. A lot more can still be done, especially on the technical aspects - the two different modes of electrification and the different classes of rolling stock - the plans for the future (including stations planned and under construction) and the relationship to former Stadtbahn routes and the Franz-Josef Bahn, which IIRC we don't yet have an article on. Also I find we have a full set of templates for the little colored line identifying thingies; I have used these only in the headers for the lists of stations, but it might be a good idea to integrate them throughout, as in the German articles. List of Vienna U-Bahn Stations Suggestion

I would like to suggest that the List of Stations on this page be spun off into its own separate List of Vienna U-Bahn stations article. That is how the vast majority of metro articles handles the station's issue (i.e. with a separate "List of [...] stations" article), so it'd probably be best if the same was done for the Vienna U-Bahn. I think doing so would "clean up" this article, and a separate "List of stations..." article will allow the stations to be put into a proper table, etc. Just a thought... --IJBall (talk) 20:18, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Is this system a "premetro"?

The premetro article contained a great deal of original research, and characterized a large number of light-rail or streetcar routes as "premetro" systems for questionable reasons -- like that the light-rail or streetcar system had a short tunneled section. More recently the premetro article has been scaled back, to only include systems that verifiable authoritative sources have called "premetro" systems.

Unfortunately dozens of questionable incoming links were made to the premetro article, from articles like this one, that didn't supply any references that verified systems like this one had ever been called premetro systems.

I am going to place a {{dubious}} tag next to all questionable claims that provide questionable incoming links to premetro.

If no authoritative references ever called this a "premetro" system that phrase should be removed from this article, link and all. Geo Swan (talk) 18:00, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Premetro strikes me as one of those modern terms for something that may have either been called by another name or not classified so precisely in former times; as such, it would be applicable in instances where the term was not historically used, but that would not invalidate its use since these days this term is used. In the case of this article, the link was present from very early on; it was changed from pre-metro to premetro with this edit on 7 September 2007, at which time the still new Premetro article was still a redirect to Stadtbahn - an obvious older term - the redirecting was reverted the following year. Also, the Vienna system is a good example of a municipality wanting a metro system and preparing for it but not actually implementing it for a long time. So on balance I'd say it should stay in this article. Yngvadottir (talk) 18:28, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

The English Premetro article is linked to the German de:U-Straßenbahn, which in case of modern Vienna definitely refers to the underground parts of tramlines 6, 18, 1, 62 and WLB ("Badner Bahn"). The German article about the Vienna U-Bahn state that that parts of the U2 line were a "Unterpflasterstraßenbahn" before - then called "Zweierlinie". 81.255.178.243 (talk) 15:52, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
