Proposed merge[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result was no merge between vidding and anime music videos. -- Elatb (talk) 02:52, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Vidding can be clips of almost anything, whereas AMVs are a specific genre. 71.48.76.59 (talk) 04:30, 5 August 2009 (UTC)MotherFerginPrincess[reply]
  • Oppose Vidding and Anime Music Videos are different, in the fact than AMVs are a seperate Genre. However, i dont think VIDDING deserves it's own article. It's a CATEGORY if anything.XxReikoxX - The Visual Asia Geek (talk) 03:25, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. When I went to a lecture by Larry Lessig, he didn't mention 'vidding' as an example of rewrite culture. Nor did he screen a few 'vids' (or whatever the noun form is) for us to watch. Nor did he descant on how enforced copyright law would utterly forbid them. No, he spoke to us of 'anime music videos', and showed us 'AMVs'. The terms may be similar - I will grant that immediately - but they are still different subjects, much like doujinshi are different from fanfictions (no matter what country they are produced in). --Gwern (contribs) 04:01 13 December 2008 (GMT)

My apologies for not starting off the discussion before. I proposed the merge because I believe that the phenomena have a large overlap. AMVs are briefly discussed as examples of fanvidding in Sarah Trombley's article, which is available on this page. --Malkinann (talk) 23:11, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Although the articles in their current state are very similar, this is the result of the articles not yet being fleshed out; it is not the result of inherently similar practices. Someone fluent in reading the videos within one genre may not understand at anything more than a cursory level when watching the other. The genres, styles, motifs, metaphors, and intertextual references are different. Though there is some participation overlap, most individuals are involved in only one community or the other, and may be utterly ignorant that the other even exists; each community has its own places of congregation. There is only incidental overlap in history, practices, and communities between fanvidding and AMVs -- worthy of including clear links between the articles, but not more. • Oppose. While similarities can be drawn on paper. In true context, the practice of creating Anime Music Videos as opposed to creating fan-made compilations which this article refers to are entirely different subsets of the culture and therefore, not applicable to each other. In simple terms, they are two different things. Perhaps a reference to AMVs could be made on this article instead. ⒺⓋⒾⓁⒼⓄⒽⒶⓃ talk 19:58, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. We differ between the musical genres Heavy Metal and Trash as well, and as Evilgohan2 quite rightfully point out, the fancultures are completely different. Contributions/212.10.48.104 (talk) 13:56, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Convergent evolution. PrePressChris (talk) 01:54, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Band Footage[edit]

As can be seen [here|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jEGAiu4AG0]and [here|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skxDsLbLRXo], vidders sometimes add band footage or other footage from the original music video to enhance similarity to a standard music video, or in the latter case, to contrast the feelingss of a particular character in the vid with one from the original music video. Could someone please add this to the article? 71.48.76.59 (talk) 19:44, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Artistic Value[edit]

There should be a section noting the Artistic Value of Vidding, particularly its ability to criticize tropes and stereotypes within television.

Bad Link[edit]

The first external link in the article re-directs to some kind of very shady/spammy looking page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.198.206.186 (talk) 15:50, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing this out; it has now been fixed. If you come across anything similar in the future, please feel free to go ahead and remove it yourself without seeking prior approval. Dorianha Bogelund (talk) 02:38, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
