Stone Cold[edit]

Isn't Stone Cold Steve Austin technically from Edna, Texas not Victoria?

That's what I've always heard. When wrestling, he was announced as from Victoria, but Steve Williams was born in Edna.

Yeah, Stone Cold was born in Edna, not Victoria. I've always supposed the reason why he was announced as being from Victoria is because Victoria's 15 times bigger than Edna and a hell of a lot easier to find on a map. Unfortunately, I don't really know where to look to find a citable source that says he's from Edna.--SeanQuixote | talk | my contribs 02:42, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Williams is from Edna originally. I have my brothers old year books with pictures of him when he was younger in them. And if that doesn't help you call his cousin Kim Wigend (not sure of correct spelling) she is a nurse at Ganado Elementary. Or Carolyn Baron who taught him while he was in school in Edna.

POV[edit]

Some of this reads like it was copy-pasted out of a tourist brochure, or (in the case of the Education section) VISD's website. Citations and less POV language should be used, I'll clean that up soon.

Demos?[edit]

How can the population be 71% white and 42% hispanic?

Many demos classify latinos as a subset of other races, but this could also be a typo. Could the author please link source of data for validation purposes?

Thanks for the census source citation. As Race (United States Census) describes, being hispanic is considered an ethnicity, not a race, so there is significant overlap between the 71% white and 43% hispanic categories. As a former resident, I would not be surprised if Victoria were 28% Anglo/white and 43% Latino/white. If this is the only objection to the population statistics, I suggest removing the dispute flag.

Arts[edit]

Way too much POV in this section . . . was this written by an employee of the city of Victoria?

StateOfTheUnion 01:13, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The arts section, as it stands, has got to go. It has no place in an encyclopedia. Consensus? If no one responds, consider it gone in a week. Dirtydan667 02:04, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No one has responded, so it is gone. SpokaneWilly 07:25, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Who wrote this article?[edit]

This article is utterly littered with POV, and is a disgrace to me both as a Wikipedian and a Victorian. For example, this sentence from the Quality of Life section

Most outsiders would view Victoria as "too dirty," "too trailer-parky" or "too white trash" for
their taste.[citation needed]

I just removed because it is completely pointless to anyone who might actually be looking for information on the city, not to mention being POV, and unsourceable. If anybody who has more time on their hands than I in the Wikiproject Texas sees this, please completely rewrite this article.--SeanQuixote | talk | my contribs 02:58, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sheesh[edit]

Holy crap, this is a terrible article. I'll turn some attention to it as soon as I hit Spring Break.

Population[edit]

This article uses a figure for the population of the Victoria metropolitan area which is roughly twice the size of the number used in that article. But the other article defines the VMA in terms of three counties, while this article includes seven counties. It seems to me that both articles should use the same definition for consistency, and to avoid confusion. Cgingold (talk) 08:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Drabek, Kolb do not reside in Victoria[edit]

Per the article "Current National Football League players who reside in Victoria include..... Kevin Kolb (Philadelphia Eagles). Retired MLB players Doug Drabek and Ron Gant also live in Victoria"

Kevin Kolb does not reside in Victoria, though he was born here. Doug Drabek lives in The Woodlands, TX and has not lived in Victoria since graduating from St. Joseph HS in 1980, though he was born and raised here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.192.52.86 (talk) 00:47, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Updated[edit]

Gosh, I'm amazed that this article was so lacking for so long. I've added a lot of information which I hope people will find accurate, informative, and neutral. I'm not sure how to do citations, but I did verify the information. Hope I can figure out how to do this one day. Would love to see the article added to.

Demographics[edit]

This section appears in Demographics:

The racial makeup of the city was 55.2% White, Hispanic or Latino of any race were 42.4% of the population, 7.59% African American, 0.51% Native American, 1.01% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 17.31% from other races, and 2.35% from two or more races.

First of all the math does not add up. Second, I don't know if there should be a comma or a period after WHITE. The sentence would make sense if it were a period. I'm not going to change it because someone might think I own what is behind it. Someone please go to census.gov, get the correct numbers and post it. Thank you everyone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattscards (talkcontribs) 23:40, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
