entires for contributors

In the notable contributors section both Hamilton Morris and Shane Smith seem to not have wikipedia entries of their own, both have gotten significant non-Vice media coverage, especially Shane Smith who was recently on Conan O'Brian. I have seen Hamilton Morris in Interview magazine and the New York times so maybe someone should make them stubs for expansion. whoops there is already a request for more info re "that fat bitch" Shane Smith, buy I still want to know more about that skinny bitch Hamilton Morris, and whoops I deleted this a week ago? --Valerophenone (talk) 07:50, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

bobos/hipsters

Aren't these abstract, pejorative and essentially POV terms? Is there a neutral alternative? Could we discuss its readership in a separate section with citations and so on? Prylon (talk) 21:01, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

"the mentally disabled"

Is this the current idiom in Canada? I ask this question in good faith, as in the UK we generally use the phrase "people with learning disabilities" and would view "mentally disabled" as a deeply outdated and pretty offensive term. Dom Kaos (talk) 14:27, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Mentally disabled is not considered an offensive term in Canada, though its use varies. "Pro-Rape Manual" MY ASS

This response was made in passion, and thus I will come across very furious. I'm not irrational, but please, hear me out.

The speculation that Answer Me! Issue # 4 was a "Pro-Rape Manual" is blatantly false. Not once in the book does Jim Goad, who by the way did not advocate rape, nor any of the contributors ADVOCATING rape, detail step-by-step on how to rape someone.

Of all articles, the most explicit (and disturbing for that matter) ones were written by Peter Sotos and Randall Phillip. I happen to own a copy, and if you need references, I'll be glad to provide some.

Jim Goad attempted to understand rape from the rapists' POV, stating in the Shit Magnet (pardon the analogy), "Trying to understand rape solely form a victim's viewpoint was like trying to understand automobiles strictly from the perspective of the asphalt. I wanted to yank the reader right into it as a participant, experiencing it from every possible angle, including those of [rapist] and [victim]." Groar! (talk) 02:50, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

American Conservative Article

"In response to these criticisms, co-founder Gavin McInnes published an article attacking liberals in The American Conservative entitled "Hip to Be Square: It’s getting cooler to be conservative" in August 2003. McInnes later said the article was written as a joke."

I've removed the line "McInnes later said this article was written as a joke" because I can't find a quote verifying this. If there is some proof, I'd like to see it. As far as I'm concerned, he was 100% serious about being a conservative.

ummm free?

Their website is currently requiring 30 USD for a North American subscription. Is it free if you find it at a stand or something? It would also be nice to have some information on where it can be found out and about.


Umm yeah ive found being free at magazine stands and cafés altough those magazines were a bit outdated.

Agreed that free needs to be changed. It's $30 unless you can find it somewhere where it's free. Seeing as how I cannot find it on a stand, and cannot get it unless a subscription is paid for, it is not free. I live near (and have lived IN) my state's 3'rd largest city, and I have NEVER seen a paper copy of this magazine. Didn't even know it existed until I saw the internet. Racism

Also of note is that Vice published an article on the band Prussian Blue. That article was not critical of the band and did not challenge anything that this group stands for. In the audio commentary on that article the Vice commentator says that "my only beef with these people is their issue with race mixing." So he DOESNT take issue with Holocaust denial, eugenics, separatism, or pro-Hitler sentiments? Vice should be taken with a pinch of salt. If you don't like your "freedom Fries" with salt don't have salt. However boycotting a whole culture might be considered racism. Does that make Amerikkka racist?

They also had a thing about Beyonce's "n***** hair" ages ago. It seems to go quite close to the edge. That doesn't mean we should paint it as some racist propaganda, though. Anyway, this article needs a helluva clean up. I'm gonner have a go now. Prylon (talk) 02:42, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

VBS.tv linkage

Countries

At the moment the list of countries the magazine is produced in seems to be a bit random and haphazard. If there are no objections I'll put Canada, as the country where the magazine was founded, first, followed by the rest alphabetically.

Also, does anyone know if the magazine is produced in Holland or the Netherlands as a whole? If we don't know exactly we should probably put what Vice themselves put on their website which is Holland (despite the fact that they might mean the Netherlands)

Oh and Mexico. Does anyone know if they actually have the mag there yet? It just says that they will in 2008 on their website but there is no affirmation that it is there yet. She'sGotSpies (talk) 10:37, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

I just found a Wired article yelling at Vice for trying to cover up their blowing John McAfee's cover. I figured it might be worth something to add to "Controversy", but I can't find too many other RS-looking commentators saying the same thing.
