Name[edit]

I originally created the page under Vardevar but upon searching google, i found Vartavar found double the amount of results than Vardevar or Vardavar so I moved it to Vartavar. Please comment if you think the move is not a good one. Fedayee 22:14, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that "Vardavar" is the transliteration of the name as pronounced in Eastern Armenian, the dialect of the Republic of Armenia. Also, the "d" should be consistent with Classical Armenian as well. "Vartavar" is the name in Western Armenian. Perhaps there are more English-language Google search results that use the "Vartavar" spelling because of the large Western Armenian diaspora? I suggest that "Vardavar" should be the main article name, with a redirect from "Vartavar". Ketone16 (talk) 22:51, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A Comment: The change to Vartavar would be a good one. Me being Armenian was looking for it on google, and only Vardevar or Vardavar would come up. Vardevar or Vardavar is the incorrect way to spell it b/c it is the way you pronounce it, however, if you were to translate Վարդավառ letter by letter to English, it would come up as Vartavar. (Վ = v, ա = a, ր = r, դ = t, ռ = r (because the Armenian language has more letters then English, some Armenian letters would be under the same category of English ones.))
