Sinking of the Athena[edit]

The film begins with information about the sinking of the SS Athena. Göbbels is heard on the radio giving a speech in which he reports the sinking of the ship, and that it has been blamed on a U-boat (German submarine). He says that it was not sunk by a German submarine, but it has been a ploy to draw America into the war. This is not insignificant, as the captain of the German submarine later admits to the sinking, and it also sets the scene for important themes of the movie - the impact of the war on civilians, and the conscience of soldiers in war.

This should surely be included in the synopsis. I hope its exclusion is an oversight rather than sanitizing. Kmasters0 (talk) 17:13, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
