Untitled[edit]

My grandpa was a crew member of the USS Weeden way back in 1943. He has always been one of my favorite people. He and grandma moved to Florida for several years and decided a few years ago to move back to New Jersey so they could be close to their children and grandchildren.

My grandpa has always been a very strong and independant person while always caring for my grandma while she was ill.

Over this past summer he started feeling very tired and became ill. He just wasn't getting any better as the days went on.

Very recently he was diagnosed with Mesothelioma. His lungs were failing do to asbestos that he was exposed to while working for the Navy and serving his country.

He is going through so much right now trying to fight to keep himself here with his loved ones.

My grandma does not drive so I have been driving her every day to visit my grandpa at the hospital. It is so wonderful to see that after over 60 years of marriage she loves him so much as to want to be by his side each and every day. She brings him lunch and stays by his side for as long as her tired body can hold out.

Sometimes in serving our country we pay more than we realize down the road. Grandpa was just getting comfortable with his life in his elder years. He was enjoying playing cards with his friends, cooking dinner for my grandma and himself, and just relaxing alittle after a long life of working hard to support his family. My heart is saddened by my grandpas illness and the loss that my grandma and our family will go through when we loose our dear grandpa.

I just needed to share this story because even now that my grandpa is in his retirement, he will be giving the ultimate sacrifice for his contry because of the work that he did so long ago. There is nothing more prescious in this world than or lives.
