Category:Natural history of New Mexico[edit]

On 23 December 2006 Mmcannis added Category:Natural history of New Mexico. On 9 June 2007 Hmains removed it. Natural history refers to plants or animals, so at first glance categorizing an article about geology and physical geography, in this case a landform, under "Natural history" would seem inappropriate. However, even though an article is about a landform, if the landform creates an environment which produces a particular ecosystem and if the article discusses that particular ecosystem, then categorizing the article under a Natural history subject would be appropriate. The Tularosa Basin does produce a particular ecosystem, in fact a couple of them. In one ecosystem the Oscura Mountains chipmunk (Tamias quadrivittatus oscuraensis) is unique to the Basin. It is true that the "Ecology" section of the article is not very fleshed out, but I do think that it is enough to justify having the category Natural history of New Mexico. --Bejnar 21:31, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On 15 June 2007 Hmains again removed Category:Natural history of New Mexico without discussion. I have today restored it. If there is a reason why the reasoning above does not support the category, please explain before deleting. --Bejnar 01:56, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Landforms of ...[edit]

It is redundant to have the article categorized under both Category:Landforms of New Mexico and Category:Landforms of the United States. The point of subcategories is to avoid large bulky categories. --Bejnar 21:31, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
