Flag info source[edit]

Can we get a source on the flags? SailNet suggests this article has the maritime warning flags quite wrong -- they don't match one-to-one to the NOAA scale. VT hawkeyetalk to me 04:43, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • this matches the SailNet site. Are you confused between the plain red flags (no black square) and these flags? Herostratus 08:00, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the middle of the ocean[edit]

Are warnings and watches issued for boats well off any coast, or just wind/sea advisories within the GPS coordinates of the storm's reach? Are they called anything special once they reach TS or hurricane strength? TransUtopian 14:06, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on the conutry responsible for that part of the ocean. NWS uses tropical storm warning and hurricane warning. Japan uses gale warning, storm warning and typhoon warning. Fiji, Australia and New Zealand uses gale warning, storm warning and hurricane warning.Momoko 07:36, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

US Military - Western Pacific "Tropical Cyclone Condition of Readiness"[edit]

Would it be useful to mention these in the article? They're documented at http://www.kadena.af.mil/weather/update/tccor.htm , among other places, and are what the US military uses to announce warning information about upcoming tropical cyclones. — CJewell (talk to me) 04:55, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uh,Where Did This Come From?[edit]

"Tropical storms Before the 1987 Atlantic hurricane season, tropical storm alerts were described as Gale Watches / Warnings, not distinguished from non-tropical storms."

If you look at this newpaper scan for Betsy, you can clearly see references to alerts.http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/storm_wallets/atlantic/atl1965/betsy/news/mh0908a.gif

I removed the text given it appears to be false.TheNobleSith (talk) 23:21, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind,my mistake.I just read a few public advisories,and yes,they did use gale warning.Undoing now.TheNobleSith (talk) 23:25, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inland hurricane warning replaced?[edit]

The NWS directives ([1]) no longer contain any reference the the "Inland Tropical Storm Warning/Tropical Storm Wind Warning" or the "Inland Hurricane Warning/Hurricane Wind Warning." Furthermore, at this moment several WELL inland counties seem to currently be under a regular "coastal" tropical storm warning. ([2], [3]) It appears that the HI.W and the TI.W may have been deprecated. The tropical storm warnings which used to look like this ([4]) and this ([5]) now look like this ([6]). The NWS has been considering abolishing the separation for years now ([7]) and they appear to have done just that. Should we either rm the tropical storm wind/inland tropical storm warning or mark them as deprecated?  --Bowser the Storm Tracker  Keeping skies bright Chat Me Up 12:40, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I did this, along with major article cleanup. If there is an issue, please bring it up here or edit items by hand b/c that was only a small portion of my edit. Rv'ing would destroy a lot of cleanup.  --Bowser the Storm Tracker  Keeping skies bright Chat Me Up 04:54, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Storm Surge Warning[edit]

{{StormSurgeWarnings}} I created a graphic that depicts the storm surge watch and the storm surge warning. Can this be used in the article? 14:58, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Philippine Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals: Revised name of PAGASA's TC warning system[edit]

Hello! I would like to request a revision of all English Wikipedia articles and templates containing the term "Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals." The Philippine's meteorological agency PAGASA has changed the name of their tropical cyclone warning system from "Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals" to "Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals" since 2019. Here's the reference where this change is explained. Thank you! — Nairb.Idi9 (talk)
