Photo of Winscott Barton[edit]

Per discussion at User talk:Lobsterthermidor#Tristram Risdon, I've removed the photo of Winscott Barton because there are uncertainties over whether or not it's the right location, and if it is, whether anything remains of the building that Risdon lived in. Ideas for any other illustrations for the article would be welcome.  —SMALLJIM  15:14, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"One of the most useful sources"[edit]

Hchc2009, re your {{cn}} of this sentence in the lead: "[Risdon's Survey] remains one of the most useful sources of information about the history of the county of Devon". Good catch! I added the sentence in 2011 and must have got the idea from somewhere, but I can't find where now. It's not in any of the cited sources or Further reading, AFAICS. In fact Hoskins says in Devon (p. 556) that Westcote and Risdon "are both useful, but ... do not compare in value as portraits of the county with [Carew's Cornwall]", and he goes on to say that Lysons' Magna Britannia was the first history worthy of the name. I may have misdirected myself back then: I say we remove the sentence.  —SMALLJIM  00:25, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
