Juneau inaccessible by road?[edit]

From the article:

The state capital, Juneau, is not accessible by road, which has spurred several debates over the decades about moving the capital to a city on the road system.

Yet, if you use Google Maps, and ask to plot a route from Anchorage to Juneau, it'll give you a route. Granted, you have to cut through the Yukon Territory using the Alaska Highway, but one can still travel to Juneau via road. Check it out here.

Perhaps it should be changed to something like "Juneau is inaccessible unless one cuts through Yukon Territory on the Alaska Highway (or Highway 1, as it's known in the Yukon portion of that road) then turning south onto Haines Highway (also known as Yukon Highway 3) at Haines Junction, YT." That is, make it clear that intrastate travel to Juneau isn't possible. Thoughts? —Micahbrwn (talk) 06:21, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hate to burst your bubble, but the Google Maps® directions you've hyperlinked mention a ferry that goes to Juneau, from Prince Rupert, CANADA (see steps 22 - 24). As a side note, there are also ferry links to Juneau from Haines and Skagway. There is no access by road, though. Pine (talk) 22:57, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bus Transportation[edit]

Given how Alaska is so big, and so under-equipped with roads, no proper long-distance bus services operate around the state. However, there are intra-city networks in places such as Juneau, Haines, Anchorage. Rcsprinter (yak) @ 17:11, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you get on the Parks Highway in July you will see plenty of busses, but they are all operated by cruise and tour companies and only carry customers on package tours.. I believe Greyhound used to run to Fairbanks but they pulled out ...I think about 15 years ago. Given that the Alaska Railroad runs basically parallel to the Parks, the main artery between Alaska's two largest cities, it gets passengers that might otherwise travel by bus. There is also a private passenger van shuttle between Homer, Seward, and Anchorage, but it is such a small operation (2-3 ten passenger vans a couple days a week) it probably doesn't merit mention here. I have removed the list of roads as it is duplicated in the link at the beginning of the section, and not needed. I am retaining it here in case future discussion suggests it be returned Name Omitted (talk) 18:28, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
