Design Quirks/Easter Eggs[edit]

These seem to be the experiences of a single owner. Is there a source? Also, that light problem seems to be one of an individual vehicle that may be corrected under warranty. Bok269 21:35, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]


Neutral point of view[edit]

I've been slapped around before for this myself, so I suppose I should started pointing it out now as well. The Easter Eggs, and especially the Design Quirks sections need to be rewritten. The items are, at best not in line with NPOV guidelines. At worst, they look like original research, which is also a no-no for Wikipedia. Take the criticism of navigation feature regarding intersections. Words like useless are definitely not neutral. And, since there is no source (i.e. Motor Trend found in the March 2006 review that....) this sounds like it is the findings/opinion of the contributer to the article. Second generation Extra Features?[edit]

The (Second Generation) portion of the "Extra Features" title may be inappropriate, as at least the first part (the door not opening if the gas cap is opened) applies to the first-generation 4-door models as well. 2007 Model[edit]

Does anybody know why the 2007 model has not come out yet? I can't find it anywhere on the internet.

Size matters[edit]

The article claims that Sienna is smaller than Previa which it replaces. However, all the internet sources I could find state the opposite. Sienna is larger in all dimensions except height.

I remember when that section was originally added. It was me who put the copyvio notice on it. I was hoping that the original editor would rewrite it in his own words but he never did. Ideally, it would have been nicer to rewrite it in your own words instead of deleting information. But having said that, I could have rewritten it in my own words during that time. Sienna vs Previa vs Wish[edit]

An anonymous IP editor has added the following: "Along with the Previa, Sienna is the largest minivan in toyota's range, located above the Wish." He/she/it also made the same claim on the Previa and Wish articles. I reverted it once in February but the anonymous editor apparently feels it should be included, so I'm happy to discuss it.

The Sienna is made only in the US and is sold in the US (presumably also in Canada and possibly Mexico and parts of South America). There is no mention in the article of it being sold outside of the Americas. The Previa was sold in a number of countries, but only the first generation (mid 1990 to mid 1997) was sold in the US. The Wish is sold in many Asian countries (Thailand seems popular) but no mention of sales outside of Asia. To me, it seems strange to say that a vehicle is above or below another when they are never sold in the same country - ie they were never range mates because they were never offered together in the same country.

The anonymous editor (a name sure would be appreciated) also claims that the Ipsum and Spacio are were never produced. Yet Toyota Japan had the Ipsum listed for sale on their website from March 2005 http://web.archive.org/web/20050313053402/http://toyota.jp/ipsum/spec/spec/ to Jan 2010 [2]. I can't find the archives for the Spacio (archive.org shows many failures to read toyota.jp around that time) but the Kanto Auto Works history page [3] shows they produced the AE111 Corolla Spacio for Toyota in the 1990s (see picture 24 in the 1990 section).  Stepho  talk  15:20, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He has changed it again but at least he has a name now: User talk:שומר מסך (his nickname means 'screen saver'). I still think it is pointless to rank vehicles by size when they don't appear in the same country - ie a range is only applicable when you can see them offered side-by-side.  Stepho  talk  23:09, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Sienna is also sold in Taiwan. See Toyota Taiwan's website. Previously, US models were imported from the United States to be driven in Taiwan. Now, they are officially sold in Taiwan. I know this because I've been to Taiwan and I've seen them roaming the streets long before they were officially sold there. Eightsixofakina (talk) 23:20, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Should section titles be in calendar years or model years[edit]

Recently the section titles have shuffled back and forth between calendar years and model years. A quick list of pro and cons are:

  1. N.Americans think about cars only in model years. They do know what calendar years are but easily get confused applying them to cars.
  2. The rest of the world does not understand model years at all.
  3. Using model years is consistent with other N.American only articles (eg Ford Mustang).
  4. Using calendar years is consistent with most Toyota articles (eg Toyota Corolla).
  5. If we use model years then a non-American is likely to change it to calendar years.
  6. If we use calendar years then an American is likely to change it to model years.
  7. The automobile project says to use calendar years for most car articles but allows articles for cars sold in predimantly in N.America to use model years in the prose. However, the project didn't say what to do for generational section titles.

This would also apply to many other N.American cars, so perhaps we should take this to the automobiles project page. Comments?  Stepho  talk  08:00, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Toyota is a Japanese brand, not an American one. I know that the Sienna is also sold in the Middle East and South Korea (probably others too). The Camry article has been going fine using calendar years, and it too is a very US-centric model. OSX (talk • contributions) 09:04, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not exclusive to Limited if also available on XLE[edit]

Regarding this text in the 2nd generation model year changes section:

The "XLE" prefix in "XLE Limited" was removed, and new exclusive equipment for this trim included an optional memory function for the driver's power seat and side-view mirrors (also available on XLE as an option)

If these options were also available on the XLE, then by definition they were not exclusive to the Limited. Greg (talk) 23:09, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
