Opening comment[edit]

"The first totalisator was an entirely mechanical system invented by the Australian George Julius of Julius Poole & Gibson Pty Ltd. It was installed at Ellerslie Racecourse in New Zealand in 1913."

This article is at odds (no pun intended) with the American Totalisator article which gives credit to American Henry L. Straus:

"The first tote boards were manufactured for the horse racing industry by the American Totalizator Company, and "tote board" is probably a colloquialism for totalizator." Drcwright 01:42, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TotalizATOR? Really?[edit]

"Inside the totalizator"[edit]

The picture shown is not "inside the totalizator". It's just the clerk side of the betting windows. The actual insides of a totalizator can be seen here.[1]. The mechanical compute hardware was huge, and big enough to walk inside. John Nagle (talk) 21:07, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
