My maternal Grandparents were from Toritto. I remember my Grandfather used to pronounce where he was from "Tureet e Barr" meaning Turitto,Bari. He, like many who came from the area of Bari to NYC at the turn of the century, became ice and coal haulers. He was able to make enough money to purchase a house in the Bronx and have a fairly substancial plot of land on which to do his planting. He grew tomatoes & figs among other things.
