Torch Lake at 18 miles long is Michigan's longest inland lake and at approximately 18,770 acres (76 km²) is Michigan's second largest inland lake.

that is contradictory

Article moved..[edit]

The article formerly identified as "torch lake" was changed to a disambiguity page on June 19(refer to discussion section for that entry), and this dedicated article was created solely for the lake in Antrim County. This was done to remove confusing and cumbersome references to other lakes and townships, and streamlines Wikipedia in general. All former links have been redirected to their respective articles. citation request[edit]

A simple internet search of the supposed National Geographic ranking of Torch Lake as 3rd most beautiful in the world returns nothing from the source. If N. G. rated it as such a citation to that ranking should be posted. Thank you. Hovaness (talk) 06:42, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an urban legend invented by locals, or perhaps by some travel agency or real estate broker. A simple Google search for "National Georgraphic most beautiful lakes" returns nothing but sites discussing various lakes of Michigan claiming to also have been listed. I am deleting the sentence. I must say though, it is a fabulously beautiful lake.

Rewrite[edit]

This article doesn't serve any justice or provide any meaningful information, and I am currently in the process of rewriting it entirely. As the second-largest inland lake in Michigan, I feel it deserves a better article, as do many other similar articles. I am drafting the rewrite here and will plug in the information into the article's namespace when complete. The focus of the new version will center around the lakes geology/geography, settlements and public access, fishing and other common recreational activities, and its huge tourism aspect (including somewhat negative aspects such as mass gatherings, littering, nuisances, local complaints, and relations to suspected Covid-19 surges).
