Age for Tony Vincent[edit]

Tony Vincent was a prominent enough player with a large number of wins, therefore we should assume that if there is nothing in the records to indicate his death, we should assume that he must still be alive at 96 years of age. That is not an incredibly advanced age. It is doubtful that his death would go unnoticed in the media. Tennisedu (talk) 14:52, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, so per Category:Possibly living people "Individuals of advanced age (over 90), for whom there has been no new documentation in the last decade" are considered only possibly living so displaying age would not seem appropriate. I've lost access to newspapers.com but checking google quickly I can't find any reference to him past 2006, so unless something surfaces this would be an appropriate classification. Just looking through the list of other players less well known than Tony Vincent, they all have some reference on a simple Google search to their passing, so I very much doubt that Vincent could pass away without a reference on Google. I presume alive until evidence of death for tournament winners of Masters level events. Vincent may have been a life-long bachelor as far as I can see, so perhaps that would explain the lack of late age commentary. However, you are within the parameters for Wikipedia, I admit.Tennisedu (talk) 03:06, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I could dig up example of players more known than Tony, for whom we only have a family written Legacy.com source for their passing. If you cross reference tennis players against Category:Year of death missing you'll also find some pretty notable players. Jevansen (talk) 04:00, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like Tony Vincent is still alive, here is a comment on Facebook from 1 Year ago.

"Marty Hershey--- Kathy Koo--- Tony was still around, last I heard. Tony's sense of humor is very dry and very funny. He's in the phonebook." "Reply 1y" Unless you have something more recent, I will add his age back into the infobox.Tennisedu (talk) 03:15, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Need a more reliable source though than a Facebook post from some random person. Not going to revert if you add the age back in but I don't think you should. Jevansen (talk) 04:00, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to keep moving the goalposts on this one, here is the requirement which you quoted above, "Individuals of advanced age (over 90), for whom there has been no new documentation in the last decade". It is not necessary to actually cite this as a source, but it is evidence within the past ten years that this individual existed. There is no doubt that a report of a telephone book listing for Tony Vincent one year ago at least is documentation of a sort, and sufficient to satisfy the requirement of his existence. I will put it back in because it seems to satisfy the requirement which you referred to above. Not sure why someone who did not know Tony would pretend that he is still alive, what would someone gain from that?Tennisedu (talk) 04:09, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it turns out that I WAS RIGHT. Tony Vincent passed away on March 10, 2023 at the age of 97. There was no reason to question my addition to this bio. Please refrain in future from making such nit-picking and wrong-headed objections to my work. Thank you.Tennisedu (talk) 03:57, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
