Nickname is official[edit]

In the Hebrew Wikipedia it written (here: he:שם חיבה) that Lapid added to his official name the nickname "Tommy". Toya 05:10, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Knesset website, the spelling is Tomy. It's also pronounced with the long "o" (i.e. TO-mee) rather than like the English name "Tommy." Can this be confirmed elsewhere? -- Thanks, Deborahjay 18:23, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Tommy is the spelling normally seen. Epson291 06:44, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's really important, but in case the article name is indeed changes, it should be Tommy per WP:COMMONNAME and not Tomy (if the rationale is to use the official name, then Yosef should be used). -- Ynhockey (Talk) 07:52, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved it to Tommy per above. пﮟოьεԻ 57 11:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Random Lengthy Quotation[edit]

I came across this page and found a 7 Line quotation, apparently found in a 1988 book called "Besieged Bedfellows", by one "Benjamin M. Joseph". This is the lengthiest piece of information in the whole article. I couldn't find the quote mentioned anywhere else online - not that it particularly matters IMHO. Lapid's significance, I gather, rests on his role as a secular media personality and parliamentarian. A lengthy quote on an apparently random topic (Apartheid South Africa and African politics in general) seems nothing but a malicious attack on his character. So we have an unknown author, writing on a random topic, taking up the most significant space of the article - with no retort. For these reasons, I am removing the quote. JPTINS3000 (talk) 13:54, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

neither is the author unknown (do a google research) nor is the topic random (for israel and also it's media apartheid south africa was an important issue). we don't need a retort cause that is lapid in his own words and not somebody else's judgement. if an editor is more worried about the reputation of a public person, we have to remind him, that wikipedia is not the place to conceal information for these reasons. also, you were pleased by another editor to wait the discussion and it's consensus before reverting.--Severino (talk) 14:13, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sir, to quote Monty Python, an argument is not just contradiction. (1) "Benjamin M. Joseph" is not a notable author, not notable enough to have his own wikipedia article, not notable enough to appear in Google Scholar; (2) An encyclopedia requires reliable secondary sources for information and opinion, not primary source quotes; (3) Apartheid South Africa may be important to you, but it's not important to an article on Tommy Lapid, who has nothing to do with it. Maybe if you were collect a whole lot of information on "Political Views of Tommy Lapid", and then include his views on South Africa in that section, that would not fail WP:UNDUE WEIGHT. Also, I'd like to ask you again: what is your native language? JPTINS3000 (talk) 14:41, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
joseph is notable, notable enough to be reviewed by foreign affairs for example. but that doesn't matter here cause the quote in question is not joseph's opinion or assessment but lapid in his own words. and the source is reliable. apartheid south africa was important for israel but the quote actually also deals with israel's isolation and allies and illustrates lapid's attitudes. again, if an editor is worried about the reputation of a person, we have to remind him, that wikipedia is not the place to conceal information for these reasons.--Severino (talk) 14:52, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wall. A. Head. Banging. Like. Your. Against. Brick...... rearrange these words. I would like an outside opinion. Are you going to answer me with regards to what your native language is? JPTINS3000 (talk) 15:00, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Third opinion I agree that the length of the quote is pushing the boundaries of WP:WEIGHT. Could the section be reduced in size? I'm not even sure if it belongs at all. Was Lapid's stance toward African nations at the time significantly at odds with other Israeli politicians? OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:19, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fourth opinion: The quote is unnecessary, as per WP:UNDUE. Joyson Noel Holla at me! 15:32, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Remove it That quote is absurd. At the very least, it needs to be severely truncated in length, but I strongly believe it should be removed altogether. Clear WP:UNDUE problems. ɠǀɳ̩ςεΝɡbomb 16:05, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bad Language link[edit]

At the top of the list of links to this entry in other languages is a BAD link. The first link to Hebrew (עברית) goes to a Hebrew template for "Opposition Leaders". I can't find where in the entry this template-link is to remove it. Can someone assist please? [The proper Hebrew link is halfway down the list] Shmuel A.
