Why is there no personal info in the panel on the right about his education and family as other bios on wikipedia provide? Why is there only sports information? Mr Smith's bio here deserves better treatment.

Tommie's real birthplace[edit]

Tommie Smith was born in Clarksville, Texas - not in California as is listed in this article. He moved to Lemoore, California as a youngster and began his track and field career there. Check his official website for details.

The following statement added by an editor:

"The men's gesture had lingering effects for both Smith and Carlos, the most serious of which were death threats against them and their families"

Not to be glib, but are you serious about this? Do you honestly think that they (A) Didn't receive death threats or (B) are trying to infuse racism? Assume good faith man, I would be shocked if they didn't receive death threats. High profile people receive death threats for daily activity, and if they do anything even remotely controversial they will receive death threats for it. This is not a new phenomenon. While I agree that they should cite their sources, I Googled "Tommie Smith" and "death threats" and there are 1500 hits and the top 10 articles include the L.A. Times and BBC. Time for 200 metres sprint[edit]

According to Tommie Smith[1] and a video of the actual race, he was initially timed at 19.78 seconds in Mexico, rather than the 19.83 that was recorded as the official time. Might be worth mentioning in the article, perhaps in a note. Kaldari (talk) 07:52, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Tommie Smith[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Tommie Smith's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
