"Non-notable photographer"[edit]

This was prodded with the comment non-notable photographer ... only 8 Google hits.

Harsh words!

Is he non-notable? Well, one of his photos gets a double-page spread within History of Japanese Photography. Very, very few other photographers are accorded that honor. He also has entries in the right books (see the additions to the article).

Only eight Google hits? That was then, this is now, when there are 790 hits. And, for those who think it matters, at least one is in English. -- Hoary 15:19, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That was me, and I stand corrected. I only found 8 hits ... but if there are 790 and people who know this are much better than I do find Tokihiro notable, of course, I defer to their better judgement.
I am taking this on faith, most of the hits are in Japanese and I can't read enough Japanese to know if this satisfies notability and verifiability or not. The one in English wouldn't satisfy me --- but since the editor that removed the PROD knows this area (photography) far better than I do, I accept his judgement. Uh, small point. You refer to the man as "Tokihiro". Possibly this is just a trivial meaningless slip, but possibly you know that Japanese surnames come first to you're inferring that Tokihiro is his surname. If so, you're kind of right, and Wikipedia is wrong. Wikipedia has a lame rule according to which Japanese people born after 1857 must have their names reversed in accordance with the practice of the anglophone newspapers. If you ask me, this is stupid; but it's a rule that's vigorously defended in order not to "confuse" (!) millions of right-thinking English-speakers.

So anyway, this man's real name in Japan(ese) is Satō Tokihiro, and his surname is Satō, and we have to call him Tokihiro Satō. -- Hoary 23:58, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
