I operate a web site which I feel is appropriate for the external links section. Under the Wikipedia programme policies, it's encouraged that I don't add the site link myself but instead mention it here and let some neutral party add the link if they see fit. The link is http://tiverton.hotels-and-lodging.co.uk This site is an Open Directory of accommodation providers in Tiverton. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.42.4.145 (talkcontribs) 06:18, October 3, 2006 (UTC).

Requested move[edit]

TivertonTiverton, Devon — This Tiverton isn't any more notable than Tiverton, Rhode Island which is the hometown of Robert Gray, who was the first Westerner to navigate the Columbia River and provided the river with its name. Included in this move is Tiverton (disambiguation) to Tiverton. Bobblehead 14:18, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Support. Clearly there is no primary usage here. Vegaswikian 22:18, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support. The towns in question are the same size. Requires disambiguation. Dekimasu 10:47, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Support as per Dekimasu. Totnesmartin 21:21, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey - Oppose votes[edit]

  1. Tiverton in Devon was the original town to have that name.

Tiverton, Rhode Island is NAMED AFTER Tiverton in Devon! Trotboy (talk) 21:48, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Tivoli[edit]

The Tivoli's reopened & it's now owned by Merlin Cinema87.127.97.148 (talk) 21:58, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Removed the following line from the Tiverton Gazette section:

- "Normally features minor stories about people's meals-on-wheels service etc, another business that has ultimately relocated out of the town."

Aside from being poorly worded the sentence adds nothing to the article and is clearly not appropriate. --Fliptank po (talk) 14:45, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Community Websites in Tiverton[edit]

I am intrigued to know why mention of the TivertonTown.org site has been repeatedly removed. It is a private website that has a great deal of free community info contained; unlike other local sites it is not a large commercial venture. Please take a look at the site and let me know how it differs from other revenue-earning sites which are linked on the Tivi page. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.84.102.252 (talk) 05:32, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Simple. See the criteria at WP:ELNO and you will see that it fails on the very first one. It adds absolutely no value to the article, it is pure spam. --Simple Bob (talk) 08:05, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So the fact that there are genuinely independent items of news, opinion (blog) and information on the TivertonTown.org site means that it could be listed as a 'feature article'? I am struggling to see how this site differs from the profit-making Northcliff Media sites which are deemed acceptable yet are a clear platform for advertising and private profit. Can someone enlighten me please? Thanks! Marcus —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.151.173.208 (talk) 19:06, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Too much information makes for a dull article[edit]

This article is far too full of uninteresting detail concerning relatively ephemeral recent commercial developments. A lot of it is inappropriate for an encyclopedia article, and it is likely to act as a severe deterrent to anyone thinking of reading all the way to the end. I'd strongly suggest slimming it down very significantly - what will still be worth reading in 25 years' time? Remove anything that doesn't pass that test. Sports[edit]

The information provided about sports teams in Tiverton is insufficient. If anyone is able to name the rugby and cricket teams, this section of the article would be enhanced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.102.89.206 (talk) 23:22, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Population[edit]

There is confusion over what figure should be provided for the population of the town - which is what this article is about. One problem is that Devon CC's analyses, such as this, cover a far wider area than the town itself - see map on p.3 of the report. For the purposes of this article, we need a reliable census (or census-derived) figure for the town itself. The answer, it seems, is 19,544 - as set out in tables accessed from this document, row 3111. If anyone can find a better way of linking to the (utterly impenetrable - they are not set out in either regional order or alphabetical - you have to do a search, it seems) ONS / NOMIS tables, please do so.
