Annamalai[edit]

Tamil Annamalai is more appropriate than Sanskrit Arunachal, because Annamalai is Tamil word and the temple is in Tamil Nadu and The name of town is Tiruvannamalai. Rajan 10:34, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Tnlogo.png[edit]

Image:Tnlogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

File:Thiruvannamalai town.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Thiruvannamalai town.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: All Wikipedia files with unknown copyright status

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale, then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Deletion Review

To take part in any discussion, or to review a more detailed deletion rationale please visit the relevant image page (File:Thiruvannamalai town.jpg)

Town vs. City[edit]

A number of internet links say that a town has less than 100,000 people. If the population is 100,000 or higher, it is a city.

By this definition, Thiruvannamalai is well above the minimum population to qualify as a city. If the above definition is correct, can you please update the page, accordingly? If not, please clarify your definition of town vs. city.

Thanks, Shiv — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.63.42.10 (talkcontribs) 20:16, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have an answer to your query, but without having seen your note, in these edits I converted a number of instances of "city" to "town". The infobox indicates that the location is a town, and the bulk of the language uses "town". In Feb 2018, PrathapD changed a number of "town"s to "city"s without explanation. My changes only exist to bring consistency to the article. I don't care whether or not this is a town or a city. The census doesn't appear clear (although I didn't read the entire thing.) The word "city" only appears once, where "town" appears about 156 times and "village" appears 392 times. On printed page 30 I see "803422 Tiruvannamalai (M) Urban", where "M" indicates "municipality". (Mentioning in case that helps someone.) Abbreviation list can be found here.
