Tennessee

The article says that Tennessee is Tim McGraw's home state, but the article doesn't mention his connection to Tennessee; it only mentions his connection to Louisiana - the state of his birth. Nicander (talk) 09:08, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Similarities with VH1

Why does it seem like there are a whole lot of similarities between the wikipedia article and the VH1 biography?

For instance: "brief affair with Tim's mother" vs "brief affair with McGraw's mother" "Start, LA near Monroe" "the minor hit "Welcome to the Club,"" "failed to even make the charts" vs. "failed to make much of a dent on the charts"

The paragraph about "Not A Moment Too Soon" doesn't have any noteworthy phrases in common, but it's an obvious paraphrase.

Either VH1 paraphrased Wikipedia or vice versa. In either case something needs to be done. IMO the VH1 piece has better quality of writing. -- 14:32, 22 March 2005 66.95.123.6

Paraphrasing without credit is plagiarism in academic work, but is somewhat ok in WP work. In any case, I've done some trimming and rewording and whatnot; over time, this text will diverge from its paraphrased source more and more. Wasted Time R 03:42, 21 October 2005 (UTC)


I removed the #1 rank from the 2002 single "Telluride." I know for a fact that it did not reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. I'm not quite sure what position it did reach, so I'm leaving it blank for now. -Sebastian Prospero 05:53, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

Birth name

Um, didn't his birth certificate have his birth name as Samuel Timothy McGraw and that Smith was an adopted name? The story I heard was that Tim found out about his real name (McGraw) when he found his birth certificate. --Dubhagan 04:01, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Changed it. The link to the Larry King interview helps explain it. I was right, he only thought that his surname was Smith but that wasn't what his birth certificate said. --Dubhagan 05:00, 31 July 2006 (UTC)


If his birth name was Mcgraw then why did he have to have his name legally changed to Mcgraw at age 18? He said himself that his legal name was Tim Smith until he found out Tug was his dad. Singles list

"Down On The Farm" and "One Of These Days" didn't reach #1 on Billboard. I know that "One Of These Days" did reach #1 on Radio & Records (as did "She's My Kind Of Rain", for that matter), but for consistency's sake, I changed "Farm" and "Days" to reflect their #2 peaks on Billboard.

To TenPoundHammer, did you really need to count those exclamtaions? Tim Mcgraw is and will always be an amazing country artist. I haven't seen him in concert yet but I hope to soon, he's definately my favorite country vocalists.

Original Artists

I know Tim McGraw writes very little of his own music, in fact I wonder sometimes how people find him 'amazing' when I never see him playing an instrument, nor giving credit to his backing band, or writing his own music. Anyway, I've seen many other albums listed state the names of the songwriters who actually composed the songs, and this is done on a few of the albums, but not all of them. Good questions. A lot of popular artists today have the same issues - they don't play instruments and don't write their own songs. The article points out that Tim McGraw has recorded his last two albums with his touring band, a relatively unusual move in the country music industry, and named one of the albums for them (Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors). He also recorded a song that he cowrote for the movie Flicka, and I believe there are more songs he cowrote on his newest album. Karanacs 19:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes indeed, there are several songs on Let It Go that he co-wrote. He also co-wrote "If You're Reading This", the song he performed at the ACM's. Yes, the voice itself is indeed an instrument, just as the guitar was to Van Halen. However, Van Halen was not regarded as a single person, but rather as a band. I correct people when I say, "You know that Van Halen song?" and they say "I kind of like his music" - most people will say "I like them." So yes, the voice is an instrument, but playing one instrument alone shouldn't stand out more than the others. Zchris87v 05:36, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Nine consecutive albums debut at Number One ?

"As of his 2006, McGraw has had nine consecutive albums debut at Number One on the Billboard Country Albums Chart ..."
Can this statement be proved by listing a source or list of the nine albums?
I have only been able to find 4 albums that debuted at #1:
All I Want released September 19, 1995
Everywhere released June 3, 1997
A Place In The Sun released May 4, 1999
Live Like You Were Dying Released August 24, 2004

Throwing out a fan

That is essentially trivia. If he had a history of throwing out fans, then that would be notable, but by itself it is just celebrity gossip. Karanacs (talk) 13:52, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Roomed with Doug Pederson, baseball scholarship?

I and my brother were athletic trainers at NLU. My brothers sport was baseball and mine was football. My brother has never met Tim McGraw. And my friend at the time Doug Pederson, was a football player. They didn't share dorms with the baseball players. So unless they had an appartment off campus together, I doubt that they were roommates. I would post the true facts of the matter if I accurately knew them. Since I do not, I simply removed the part about Tim studying sports medicine at NLU. NLU did not even offer sports medicine curriculum then. The closest University that I could transfer to that did was Southern Miss. I would hold in doubt most of the article accept where he was born and where he moved to. I checked the source that the statement was cited to, and it said nothing about his college roommates. I've removed that information unless someone can provide a source that actually says that. The source did say sports medicine however - they may have been generically speaking of the stuff he studied rather than an official degree. Karanacs (talk) 19:19, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
