Related?[edit]

Is he related to Tigran V. Petrosian? Grandson? Great nephew?, etc?? Bubba73 (talk), 14:54, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • It seems to only be discussed in bynotes, but this article says there is no relation. From what I understand, "Petrosian" is a very common surname in Armenia. Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:58, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cheating scandal[edit]

Perhaps a part about the Armenian team's statement could be added? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deeper green (talkcontribs) 18:08, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

quote: I suggest all other people who's intrested in this situation, just take a look at my results in 2016 and 2017 Blitz World championships, and that should be enough... No need to listen for every crying babe, Tigran Petrosyan is always play Fair ! And if someone will continue Officially talk about me like that, we will meet in Court! God bless with true! True will never die ! Liers will kicked off...

We should include all his major tournament results. That no-one has done so yet is due to inaction, rather than deliberate design. — Bilorv (talk) 14:05, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
update: and 2021 LOL. i recall the result was that the guy needed just a draw in the last game to get money. Thewriter006 (talk) 18:54, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not aware of a reliable, secondary source (not the comment itself, in an outlet published professionally) that reports the whole comment. If you can find one then it's worth discussing, but long quotes are generally avoided anyway. What extra information does someone gain from reading the whole thing rather than just the "PIPI in your pampers" bit? Either way, they know that it's an immature, incoherent rant. — Bilorv (talk) 14:05, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
just saying LOL https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tigran_L._Petrosian&type=revision&diff=1063536931&oldid=1062910870 Thewriter006 (talk) 18:55, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
oh also LOL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wesley_So#You_got_yourself_a_deal_man._Anytime,_anywhere_as_long_as_there_is_proctoring. Thewriter006 (talk) 02:47, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

explain please 'a YouTube video with no editorial oversight is not a reliable source for BLP claims'[edit]

The claim is that Tigran L Petrosian said this or that.

1 - Hikaru showed live what the chessdotcom forums said at the time. How is that not good enough?

2 - What would you consider good enough proof? Even if chessdotcom had the forum up still today, it could be taken down tomorrow anyway. I'd say a video recording of the forum is the best possible proof. (Or webarchive, but I don't think you can do webarchive for things like chessdotcom forums. Idk.)

3 - How do you even know 'You are a biggest looser i ever seen in my life ! You was doing PIPI in your pampers when i was beating players much more stronger then you!' was said? The source here https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/oct/16/chesss-cheating-crisis-paranoia-has-become-the-culture is not so legit, I believe. The source itself has another source. https://defector.com/let-me-explain-this-amazingly-petulant-chess-drama-to-you/ And the source of that source is a screenshot. You're telling me you trust a screenshot more than a video recording? LOL. Plus this isn't any video recording. It's from Hikaru. Hikaru has no reason to fake the recording and has every reason to ensure the authenticity of what is being recorded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thewriter006 (talkcontribs) 19:46, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

i suppose you would leave magnus carlsen WCC while omitting wesley so WC?[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tigran_L._Petrosian&oldid=prev&diff=1116251444

magnus was never the world champion Thewriter006 (talk) 16:50, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The above comment is in regard to Special:Diff/1116251444, but as it does not engage with the matter of Wikipedia norms, and instead (if I'm interpreting correctly) makes strange assumptions about who I am a fan of in the chess world (quite frankly, I don't feel strongly about Carlsen, So or Petrosian any which way), there is nothing for me to respond to. — Bilorv (talk) 21:58, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why "Petrosian" and not "Petrosyan?"[edit]

Per https://www.chess.com/member/tigranlpetrosyan, Tigran has always stylized his name as Petrosyan. I thought for BLP we are supposed to respect the subject's desires on matters like their name foremost. My tightness (talk) 03:37, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that "Petrosian" and "Petrosyan" are both used as romanisations of Պետրոսյան, though I should say my knowledge of language is limited. Sources including FIDE use "Petrosian". If "Petrosyan" is widely used or preferred by the subject then it could be mentioned in the first sentence as an alternate name or as a replacement for "Petrosian", but we'd need sources better than a username on a chess website. — Bilorv (talk) 18:54, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
