Question[edit]

Is it a fair assumption that he was a namesake of U.S. President, Thomas Jefferson, or is this simply a coincidence? Dr. Dan 22:22, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

"After their marriage on August 28, 1811, Shelley invited his college friend Hogg to share their household, including his wife. When Harriet objected, however, Shelley abandoned this first attempt at open marriage" - from Shelley's Wikipedia article, refers to Shelley's first wife Harriet, not to his second wife Mary. Can anyone verify this and correct one of the articles?

Checking against GA criteria[edit]

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
Hogg later became a lawyer and met Jane Williams, who had been a close friend of Percy Shelley's shortly before his death. Confusing, does this mean Hogg met Williams shortly before Shelley's death - or that Williams became a friend of Shelley's shortly before Shelley's death?
He found his work there incredibly boring. "incredibly is a weasel word here.
At the same time Shelley often sent him letters tempting him to leave York and come to visit Elizabeth in person. Hogg opted to send her a lengthy letter rather than attempting to meet her in person repetitious phrases, better to rewrite.
but in the Spring of 1811 spring should not be capitalised.
She then began reading novels with moral themes aloud to Shelley and him. Clumsy
That year Hogg wrote a picaresque novel, Memoirs of Prince Alexy Haimatoff. He published it anonymously with the claim that it had been translated from latin by a man named John Brown at Prince Himatoff's request. Haimatoff or Himatoff? Latin is generally capitalised.
In April 1814 Hogg travelled to Ireland in an attempt to them, There is a verb missing here.

OK, in view of the comment below, I will not be listing. Give me a shout when you have got this into better shape. The Backlog Elimination drive should mean shorter waiting times for a while. Jezhotwells (talk) 22:12, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I addressed the specific sentences you mentioned, but I think you should probably fail this one since I'm not likely to get this up to "well written" in a week. Qrsdogg (talk) 20:59, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Round 2[edit]

Hope there's no problem with me relisting it so soon, but I think we were able to take care of the issues brought up in the first review. Qrsdogg (talk) 19:03, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bug in the date of Death/Age calculation.[edit]

Hogg shows as being born on 5 December 1792 and dying on 8 March 1862 yet his age is given as 70. This cannot be if the dates are correct. He would have been 70 if he'd died on or after 5 December 1862 but since he didn't he was only 69 when he died. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.113.48.9 (talk) 07:48, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with the sources[edit]
