Catholic?[edit]

Where's the evidence that this guy was Catholic? If I'm not mistaken, there were penal laws in effect throughout the British Empire at the time, prohibiting Catholics from serving in government. If no source is provided for this claim, I am going to remove it from the article.Jonathan f1 (talk) 00:20, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Britannica: "A Roman Catholic and a member of a royalist family, Dongan was exiled after the English Civil Wars (1642–51) and served in an Irish regiment of the French army." [1] Manannan67 (talk) 03:08, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
How was he awarded this position as a Catholic?Jonathan f1 (talk) 19:36, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
His family supported the Stuarts; he served with James Stuart in France under Turenne. Manannan67 (talk) 19:01, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
