There seems to be some missing elements in the history of the Palace and the Temple. The idol is Meenakshy, the elder sister of Kumaranalloor Devi, Karthyayani. The temple was the temple of Pandala raja or Pandala King and the main and most important festival was THALAPPOLI. The right or avakasom to light the talams (plates with offerings) from the holy lamp in front of the diety was with one Mr Balakrishnan Nair, who performed this for the last at his 24 tha ge. the said Balakrishnan nair, died at 82 on the 6 th of January 2008. The ancestors of this Balakrishnan Nair were sent from Aathavanadu in present Malappuram District by Azhvanchery Thambrakkal ssome centuries ago as the then King prayed for some help for his kingdom from the Thambarakkal as there was no support for him. The family was sent from Athavanad and the Edathil temple , some land near Meenachil river where the present Forest ofices are situated and some paddy fields en route to present Medical College were given to this family for their livelihood. Pasage of time saw that the paddy lands were alienated and the land near the river was acquired by the Government. The Edathil Bhagavathy Temple, its control, the right or avakasom to light the holy lap for Thiruvathira etc were handed over to this family, known as MALLOORETTU family, of which Balakrishnan Nair was the son of Mallureetu Janaki Amma. The sad Janaki Amma was the auntie of Soudamini, the only daughter of Pandala King. These are all part of the history of Thekumkoor and the Varmas who presently reside near to the Temple are not the owners or peole entitled to control or manage the temple. The temple stands alone and is not part of Kumaranalloor Ooranma and the Devaswom Board also has no right or authority over the Edathil Bhagavathy Temple. It is seen written that the Thrikala Pooja is the only festival. This is patently wrong. There were documents to show that the temple was entrusted by the King to the Mallurettu family, that came from Athavanadu and that is why, even now, there is no true owner or Avakasi for the Temple. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.172.121.239 (talk) 15:08, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
