Viscaynes / Sylvester Stewart tracks added on a Jimmy Witherspoon album[edit]

The Jimmy Witherspoon album in question is Stormy Monday And Other Blues By Jimmy Witherspoon issued on Sutton SSU 316. Sutton is a budget record label so anything can happen. A compilation or multi-artist album called Jumpin! With Pop Hits Of Tomorrow was issued on (same label) Sutton SSU 321 in 1963. It features The Viscaynes but they are mis-spelt as The Viscaines. So the two songs on the Jimmy Witherspoon album are "Help Me" which is "Help Me With My Broken Heart" and "Oh What A Night". These songs were later released or put on compilations credited to Sly Stewart of Sylvester Stewart. They were Sly being backed by the Viscaynes. The album which is on Discogs has this in the credits, Jimmy Witherspoon "Also Mel Willims, Baby Moses, Sly Williams". Well, Sly Williams could be Sly Stewart / Sylvester Stewart. This has been discussed by collectors and buffs such as here in 45worlds. It's also discussed here on Youtube. BTW: I like the comment by Youtube user Rare Budget Records, Brian McFadden, "The stuff these budget outfits used to do is really amazing, but they wound up preserving a lot of historic rock cuts that would have been lost otherwise!". I'd like to include this info in the article but I need something solid. So if anyone can help? Thanks. Karl Twist (talk) 08:33, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Viscaynes discussed in a forum - Best pre-Family Stone Sly Stone releases?[edit]

Steve Hoffman Music Forums: Best pre-Family Stone Sly Stone releases? This may give us a bit more info. I don't have time to follow it all up. Karl Twist (talk) 08:44, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It appears Maria Boldway had more of an involvement in music as per this by a Youtube member - The Gams Afoot ... " ..... the girl on the lower left is Maria Boldway, don't recognize the other girl. All except Maria (Ria) were high school seniors at Vallejo High school class of '61. Maria Boldway was only 16 at the time. She was a met-so soprano, place runner up in Miss California two years later.'"
And ...... "Boldway was the only one who continued singing and made a lot of money in LA as a "first recorder" and backup singer. A first recorder is a singer who sings the song first so the actual artist knows how its to be sung. Very few great artists know how to read music."
