....[edit]

Cpelkas 03:22, 13 May 2007 (UTC) I filled the article out with more plot details, however I would recommend further discussion of each of the characters. Especially since they have similar names and it can be difficult to remember who is who.[reply]

Feminist novel[edit]

I'm sorry, but this is so not the first feminist novel. In fact I feel that it fits best not into the feminist era, but into our post feminist times. There are many other novels which are more directly linked to the feminism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.162.110.34 (talkcontribs) 17:05, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not the first feminist novel (Which is the first?) but one of the first. And the most remarkable of them. Julie Catherine 03:21 October 26 2010 (UTC)

Who is Arthur Huntingdon?[edit]

It has been written that Arthur Huntingdon bears many similarities to Mr. Rochester. But Mr.Rochester himself bears many similarities with - guess whom? - Heathcliff. Apparently the sisters draw the same sort of men but put them in absolutely different living conditions. 109.252.84.36 (talk) 19:39, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

They both fell from their horses! And Huntingdon is to be sure loosely based on Branwell. 213.87.135.94 (talk) 00:39, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Themes[edit]

Done Not very well, but I've done it. But it still requires expansion and improvement. Julie Catherine (talk) 23:09, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Similarities and connections[edit]

Only The Professor, Agnes Grey and Wuthering Heights are unconnected Bronte's novels. There are some similarities between The Tenant and Wuthering Heights, but no one ever notice (just because Anne's novels are little known) that there is clear connection between Jane Eyre and Agnes Grey. Class of the article[edit]

I think it's a B-class article, isn't it? 213.87.130.84 (talk) 23:24, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

English law[edit]

Certainly written by a classics student. It is stated in the first para that refusal of conjugal rights is against English law. English law has never permitted rape, not even for husbands. Refusal has always been grounds for divorce, not a defence against rape.203.194.46.81 (talk) 00:13, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Escaping her husband" here means running away from him. Changed to "leaving". Thank you. The Terrible Mutant Hamster (talk) 05:07, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Incomplete editions of the novel![edit]

In all of the online editions (and some books) of The Tenant I've seen, The Prologue (not author's preface to the second edition, but the narrator's to his letter) and the chapter headings are omitted so the structure of the novel is considerably corrupted. I know the Oxford 2008 edition (which isbn is featured in this article) as being complete. And that at Wikisourse is not complete. 213.87.129.33 (talk) 00:19, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

UPD: I've found complete online edition at last! It's here213.87.133.58 (talk) 22:00, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but it's also incomplete, part of the chapter 28 is omitted. 213.87.129.33 (talk) 00:19, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Template: Page numbers needed[edit]

Is it still actual? I've changed reference from a book to a very informative site. The Terrible Mutant Hamster (talk) 09:37, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Later critical reputation?[edit]

Not clear about later critics' views on the novel. Valetude (talk) 16:26, 23 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Radio adaptations[edit]

The biography for Doris Speed (Annie Walker in Coronation Street) mentions that she appeared in a BBC radio adaptation of the novel. Could someone add this to the list of adaptations? Thanks Grandma Roses (talk) 23:01, 3 February 2024 (UTC) Doris Speed[reply]
