Untitled[edit]

This article is very weak. Up until recently The Republican name was only used for the Sunday edition – "The Sunday Republican" – and the daily edition was called "The Union News." Also missing is the influence held by the newspaper in the city itself. And where is David Starr? He is the President of the Republican Co. and holds quite some say in Springfield politics.

I know that a majority of this article is carried over from a very old encyclopedia. This has allowed it to escape the "stubb" designation. I find this to be a shame, as anyone looking for current information will find absolutely nothing of pertinent use.--Ami in CH (talk) 16:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More History - Springfield Union[edit]

Is there anymore history out there? I think there is a lot to expand on here. Wasn't the paper use to be called the Springfield Union? That is where Tom Wolfe got his start. Support. WP:PRECISION allows for disambiguation by detail. An encyclopedia should be about the articles, not about directing readers to DAB pages. This subject is the topic of the first couple of results that come up if you google "The Republican" -wikipedia. Support per PRECISION, and COMMONNAME. I don't believe there is sufficient support for other articles to be the primary topic of "The Republican" and I believe the hatnote does well to help clarify other uses people might be looking for. - For the record, the hatnote was only added after this discussion began. Anyway, the proposal is not suggesting that any other article be primary, merely that this one is likewise not primary. Before seeing this proposal I moved this from The Republican (Springfield) to The Republican (Springfield, Massachusetts). Anyone who objects may personally move it back or ask me to. The relevant policy is WP:USPLACE.

Oppose. There are way too many meanings for "The Republican", and several Wikipedia articles have claims on this title. No reason to favour any of them. (Favour the hapless reader, please!) MassLive should not redirect here[edit]

MassLive and The Republican (newspaper) are two separate companies, but both owned by Advance Local. MassLive is a news website covering the state of Massachusetts. The site has a partnership with The Republican that allows the paper to use MassLive content in print and The Republican's content publishes to MassLive.
