Publication data[edit]

We need a source for 1973 and for Doubleday, including clarification whether that is Doubleday editorial department (as it should be) or Doubleday Science Fiction Book Club arrangement with another publisher, which is possible (and we should identify the other publisher).

Bantam 1974 may be reliable for the paperback edition. But Bantam affiliation with Doubleday was in the future, i believe (eg, 1988 establishment of Bantam Doubleday Dell by the Bertelsman division Random House). ISFDB says first printing Jan 1975[1] WorldCat shows 1974 both Bantam US and Corgi UK.[2] The truth may be 1974 copyright, 1975 issue. Or that may be a source of confusion for some records of British editions only, as one record of a Corgi (British ppb) copy suggests concerning year 1974.[3] One record of a W.H. Allen (British hc) copy gives date 1975, original publ. 1974 New York (and Bantam not Bobbs-M or Doubleday).[4]

WorldCat shows earliest edition 1974 Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill, including a Book Club edition, name of club not specified.[5]

Library of Congress shows Bobbs-Merrill [1974], first edition not stated[6]

ISFDB shows earliest edition Bobbs-Merrill, Sep 1974, stated first printing "from the Bantam edition's copyright page and ABE".[7] (I suppose that means two sources, both some Bantam paperback and some bookseller display at ABEbooks.com). And Dec 1974 second printing.[8]

New York Times archive (1850-1981?) search report, oldest first
The first two listings are dated 1974-08-18 and 1974-11-03. The second shows that NYT reviewed The Reincarnation as a Bobbs-Merrill book.

The Library of Congress has three listings for that title, two books and a film. One of the book listings is presumably for a reprint, since it's dated 2012*. The other is at http://lccn.loc.gov/73022665, showing Bobbs-Merrill as the publisher. —Largo Plazo (talk) 01:17, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
