Myrna Turner[edit]

Penny Marshall was not the only Myrna Turner, I recall an African American woman playing the role in one episode.

I can't find any source for anyone other than Penny Marshall playing Myrna Turner. I recall there were some African-American characters who appeared in different episodes but not as Myrna Turner. Newyorkbrad 21:06, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting the article[edit]

I wrote almost all of the episode synopsis' here and made the grids and all, which was a painstaking labor of love that I did in my spare time about a year or so ago. That being said, I am fine with whatever is decided to do regarding splitting the article. However, this is like a one stop repository for the TV show, it may be best not to have to have people detour from it. But again, either way, I'm fine with it. Milk PSA[edit]

I remember very well, seeing a PSA for milk, as in, don't leave milk out for two hours or longer because it will turn. This "commercial" ran every Saturday morning (I'm supposing here—it was a long time ago for me), sometimes twice or more that morning. Felix would catch Oscar leaving it out, and they would discuss how bacteria will grow and make a person very sick if they drank it. Yet, I can find no reference of such a thing. Oscar's Children[edit]

Cancelled After Every Season?[edit]

The article says the show was cancelled at the end of every season, then given a reprieve because of its strong ratings in summer reruns. I've read books, magazine articles, and newspaper articles about this show, and I've never read this before. I feel certain the show was renewed, rather than cancelled, at the end of some of its seasons. Sentence removed re: look of apartment[edit]

I'm going to remove the following sentence: "The apartment set looked the same, but was reversed; the kitchen was now on the left of the stage, and the long hallway to their bedrooms was on the right." The first part - "...looked the same" - is too subjective. If the set was "reversed", it wouldn't look the same anymore, would it? The second part is incorrect - from the audience's perspective, the kitchen and hallway were both on the left, and the front door was on the right. DVD releases do NOT use syndicated prints (but are edited)[edit]

Edited the section about the DVD releases. The article claims that the Paramount DVD releases (seasons 2-5) use the pre-edited syndicated episode prints, which is incorrect. The first season, as noted, was released unedited by Time/Life. All remaining seasons released by Paramount/CBS were also taken from the original broadcast versions, however, they were extensively edited *BY* Paramount/CBS specifically for release to DVD in order to remove musical sequences that would have otherwise required royalty payments.

This is a significant difference-- syndicated prints are generally edited down to approximately 22 minutes, meaning the removal of approximately 4 minutes of original footage per episode. While Paramount/CBS is justifiably criticized for editing out the musical bits to save money, the edits are often just a few seconds, or, rarely, a couple of minutes at worst. This means that despite the tampering, the Paramount DVDs contain "more" complete episodes than have ever been aired in reruns.

(That said, some of the edits are outrageous-- they even snipped out the gleeful, newly liberated Oscar's rendition of "Singing in the Rain" in the series finale upon Felix's remarriage to Gloria, which is a favorite moment of many fans of the show, even if it is only a few seconds long.) Single camera to live audience[edit]

I think the article could use some material about the Randall-Klugman stand to change the show to a multi-camera/live audience production. I also think the material would be useful in the article about single-camera programs. I might do it, but it would probably be done better by someone who already has material about the show on hand. "Concerns over homoerotic subtext"[edit]

That's a valid topic for inclusion with proper citing, but the anon IP I just reverted simply said, in essence, "Well, they say this somewhere in the hours of DVD commentary" and "somewhere in a multi-hour interview done for the TV Academy." It was also written like an essay.
